Until recently, children's manicure was considered pampering and many did not understand why little girls should decorate their nails. Today, these prejudices are a thing of the past, and children's manicure is becoming increasingly popular. Because this procedure means not only the application of any bright coating, but also careful care of the delicate nail plate for hygienic purposes.
Children's manicure: new items
Modern trends surprise with the number of options. And little fashionistas today can choose a unique design with a twist. The best option for young beauties is the actual absence of color coverage.
Rules for performing children's manicure
Of course, first of all, a loving mother is concerned about the health of the child, so if you are going to give your daughter a manicure, opt for a special line of children's decorative cosmetics. Today, many manufacturers produce water-based colored varnishes that can be easily removed with liquid soap and will not harm your baby in any way.
It will be useful if, before applying the coating, you tidy up your child’s hands and nails by performing a delicate hygienic manicure. The baby will like these simple actions, and in this way you will begin to teach the girl to take care of her appearance independently. Manicure for children consists of the following main stages.
- Use an antiseptic to treat your and your baby's hands. Remember, children are not recommended to steam their skin before the procedure.
- Carefully cut off the free edge of the nails with scissors, making sure to leave 1-2 mm.
- Polish the sharp corners of the nail plate with a soft file.
- Remove burrs, if any, with extreme care. It is better not to touch the cuticle so as not to harm the child’s health.
- You can complete your hygienic manicure with a light massage with cream or natural oil.
- If you want to pamper your child, you can show your creativity and draw some simple designs on miniature nails.
Of course, this whole process will appeal to the little fashionista, and if you also work together to select a delicate design for children, then the joy will know no bounds.
Manicure for different ages
If you want to reproduce current and modern motifs, then, firstly, you should not choose radically dark or bright elements. Secondly, you should pay attention to pastel shades. A French jacket, a light moon design or a pattern on one accent finger would be suitable. If the event is important, then a manicure can replicate the style and decorations on clothes. Let's try to list everything that is relevant for ages up to 13-15 years.
- Stamping.
- Minimalism and nude.
- Lunar manicure.
- Thin French.
- Slider design.
- Negative space style, when there is free transparent space without design.
- Gradient technique (most often in a pink shade).
Manicure at 7-10 years old
At this age, girls prefer cartoon characters, flowers, fairy-tale fruits, dots, stripes, elementary patterns or cute animals. Elementary school students choose subtle colors or do bare manicures for hygienic purposes.
Manicure at 11-15 years old
At an older age, teenagers prefer creative designs that suit short nails. As a rule, it carries some symbolism or important information for them. For example, paraphernalia of your favorite activity, brands, hearts, icons of social networks or instant messengers - all this is in trend today.
Can children paint their nails?
Manicure is an integral part of the manifestation of femininity. Often mothers want to emphasize the beauty of a little princess or simply cannot refuse their child’s request to paint their nails. It may look very cute, but first you need to make sure that it is safe for your daughter?
Features of children's nails
The formation of the nail plate occurs in the mother's womb and already at the 9th month of pregnancy the child has full nails. From this moment on, their growth will continue throughout their lives. Despite the appearance of the nail, which is not much different from an adult, except for size, its anatomical and physiological structure is different.
At an early age, the nail plate does not even completely cover the nail bed. Nails are much thinner and more elastic than those of an adult. The elasticity of the nail is so high due to the large amount of moisture in their composition.
The cuticle on children's nails is softer; it cannot be cut and it is better not to touch it at all until adolescence. It is believed that only at the age of 14-15 does a teenager’s nail become fully functional.
This vulnerable structure of a child's nail increases the risk of infection of the nail plate. This is further aggravated by the fact that children do not really like to wash their hands, but touch everything. Many mothers are concerned about the appearance of hangnails on their children’s hands. Experts do not recommend cutting them, as this increases the risk of infection.
Is nail polish harmful?
Recent research has focused on identifying the harmfulness of varnish to the human body in general. And their results, unfortunately, are not so encouraging. Scientists from the USA tried to analyze the blood and urine of women who constantly use nail polishes and the results confirmed their hypothesis about the harmfulness of this product.
The test results of the women examined showed the presence of harmful substances. Scientists have suggested that triphenyl phosphate enters the body and internal organs of women through the capillaries of the cuticle and nail plate. Just 10-15 hours after applying nail polish, the amount of this harmful substance in the human body increases 7 times. Experiments on animals have proven that this substance negatively affects the functioning of the endocrine system. Triphenyl phosphate is found in almost all nail polishes. Of at least 1,500 samples studied, scientists were unable to find a single safe one. If varnish is so harmful for adult women, then is it necessary to talk about harm to a child?
The negative impact of the varnish coating is difficult to notice visually, but you can see how the nail plate changes with regular painting. Thin children's nails may begin to peel, they become more dry due to the loss of moisture necessary for their normal health. Increases the likelihood of white spots occurring.
Due to the presence of a large amount of water in children's nails, the varnish peels off faster. Particles of varnish can get into the eyes when a child rubs them with his hands, as well as into the digestive system if the girl has a habit of biting her nails. This can cause local irritation and increases the concentration of harmful substances in the body. In addition, varnish is a strong allergen. If your child is prone to an allergic reaction, varnish can activate it.
Proper children's manicure
Based on the danger of nail polishes for children and health in general, it is better to refrain from using them. But sometimes it is very difficult for mothers to refuse their daughter, and some parents want to instill the habit of caring for themselves from early childhood. For such cases, there is a solution - children's varnishes. They are made to be safe and do not last long. Children can lubricate their nails with nail oil, which can easily replace applying polish.
Children's nails need to be trimmed regularly. This should not be done too often: once a week on the arms and once every two weeks on the legs. You cannot use a nail file; your nails are too thin to file. For this manicure, use special rounded scissors. Do not cut your hair too short as this may cause discomfort. Watch the length of your nails, as dirt collects under overgrown nails. Don’t forget to sterilize your instruments; you can wipe them with herbal tinctures. Each child in the family should have their own individual nail scissors.
If there is a strong impact and injury to the nail, run it under cold water. Over time, the bruise will go away, and the injured part will be cut off. Don't be alarmed if the nail is completely torn off, it will grow back. Pay special attention to the appearance of white spots on your nails, they can tell a lot about your health. You can read what the white spots mean in the corresponding article on the Aesthetic Portal.
It is best not to use nail polish on children under 16 years of age. At the same time, from adolescence you can already get a manicure. Teach your child to remove cuticles, not by cutting them, but by pushing them away with an orange stick, and by filing their nails. It is better to apply gel polish or nail extensions no earlier than 16, and ideally 18 years.
If your child has a bad habit of biting his nails, do not rush to cover them with pepper or scold him for it. Very often this behavior is caused by nervous tension in the child. If this habit is constant and you cannot wean your child, it is better to consult a psychologist to make sure there are no signs of incipient psychological problems behind these actions. Children can react this way to conflicts in the family, anxiety about going to kindergarten, and so on.
A child's manicure using regular nail polish is not a good idea. It is better to use alternative methods of caring for children's nails.
