  • Every bride wants her wedding to be perfect, because it is one of the most important days in life . Every little detail is thought through: accessories, shoes, handbag, garter - everything should be in the same style to make the image complete and harmonious.

    Many couples have themed weddings , where the outfits of the guests and the color palette play a significant role. For example, a wedding in Provence style implies a dress code in soft lilac, violet, pinkish and bluish tones; blue predominates in a nautical theme, and red in a Spanish theme. If the bridesmaids are dressed in the same color, this is a big plus for a wedding photo shoot: the pictures will turn out bright and unusual.

    However, not always and not everyone has the time and money to sew identical dresses for girls.

    This is where boutonnieres come to the rescue - small hand bracelets made in the same style as the bride’s bouquet.

    Even if the bridesmaids came in different outfits, this original accessory will help emphasize the style of the wedding and the bride herself, and will also make the girls’ image more solemn.

    Bracelet made of fresh flowers

    To make bracelets you will need:

    • Satin ribbon;
    • Several fresh flowers;
    • Scissors;
    • Wire;
    • Floral tape;
    • Glue.

    To make a bracelet, take flowers, cut their stems to a length of 2-3 cm and pierce them with wire so that they can be secured to the bracelet. We collect the prepared flowers into a single composition and wrap the ends of the wire with tape so as not to damage the hand of the future owner of the bracelet.

    We make a small hole in the satin ribbon, into which we then thread the wire flower stems and secure the composition with glue. Cover the ends of the wire on the reverse side with a piece of tape. Our bracelet is ready.

    What is a boutonniere

    A boutonniere is a miniature arrangement made up of fresh or artificial flowers. This word translated from French means “flower in the buttonhole.” At European wedding events, the groom's suit was decorated with a small flower, which was inserted into the buttonhole of the jacket lapel. Now not only men, but also girls can wear boutonnieres, decorating their wrists or hairstyles with them.

    Since the wedding should be decorated in the same style and color scheme, there are some requirements for accessories:

    • Wedding compositions must match the overall color scheme of the event. The shades of the flowers should be in harmony with each other and the bride’s bouquet.
    • If the wedding is themed and the bride's bouquet is made in a certain style (for example, wildflowers), boutonnieres should support these trends.
    • The decoration should be in harmony with the groom's suit.
    • The accessory usually consists of 1-3 flowers, which can be complemented with various decor. A larger number of plants will overload the composition.

    DIY boutonnieres for bridesmaids. Cheap and cheerful + master class and a lot of PHOTOS

    _________________________________________________________________________________________

    Hi girls!

    _________________________________________________________________________________________

    I’m diligently preparing for the wedding and every day I understand that small purchases turn into big expenses, and I really want individuality. Template weddings are boring, but I dream of a celebration with a twist. The first highlight was the choice of two completely inappropriate colors, my husband and I chose a red and blue wedding, or rather the girls - the bridesmaids will be in red dresses, and the groomsmen will be in blue suits. If you have a lot of patience and desire, then all your ideas can be brought to life. The Aliexpress website always comes to my aid.

    A boutonniere for a friend is another highlight that I didn’t ignore, and since the flowers will be red roses, I chose for the ladies’ bracelets.

    The price at the time of purchase was 21 rubles per piece - and this is when a ready-made boutonniere can be bought for at least 150 rubles. The rose is approximately 6-7 cm in size and 3-4 cm in height. The material is foam, but it is hard, due to the large number of sparkles that crumble a lot, you definitely need to fix them with glossy varnish so as not to lose their shine.

    To create individual boutonnieres I needed the following materials:

    1. 4 roses (depending on the number of girlfriends)
    2. Red and white satin ribbon 3.5 cm wide and 2 m long
    3. Glue moment waterproof
    4. Scissors
    5. Threads in the color of the ribbons
    6. Elastic band 2 cm wide
    7. Fire from a lighter or candle to seal the edges of the tapes

    To begin with, I prepared an elastic band. I measured it on about my wrist and sewed it into a ring.

    I thought that elastic bands would be more practical and comfortable, unlike, for example, ribbons that need to be tied around the wrist.

    Next, I eyeballed the figure eight with ribbons and sewed it in the center.

    For one boutonniere I needed 2 red “eights” and one white. Then I put them together and sewed them together, and then to the elastic.

    It took me a long time to figure out how to attach the flower. There is no way to sew, the thread under tension tears the rose. There is no way to use a glue gun either, the wedding is in the summer, and the heat will melt this glue. I decided to glue it on for a moment.

    It is a little finicky, you need to apply a little glue to the rose and the ribbons, wait 10-15 minutes until it dries a little and only then glue it, otherwise the glue will come out everywhere and it will be ugly. When the rose “grabbed” a little with the ribbons, I still decided to stitch it right through, just to be sure)) Very carefully, with a few stitches) Otherwise I’m afraid that the girls will lose my work by the end of the evening.)

    Here's what I got:

    Girlfriends approved)))

    Boutonniere options

    This accessory can be made from a wide variety of materials:

    • Natural flowers;
    • artificial plants;
    • paper;
    • textile;
    • tape and much more.

    Based on this, you can choose the boutonniere option. After all, you must admit that not every girl loves fresh flowers. Some people are allergic to them. This is precisely why there are alternative options.

    Artificial plants

    This is a material that allows you to create absolutely any composition.
    Today in stores you can find many ready-made options, and for handicrafts there are a bunch of ready-made blanks that allow you to create beautiful bouquets. You can secure the finished composition with a satin ribbon or elastic band. Such a product can be stored for quite a long time. Therefore, if the bride’s bouquet is given to the guests, the boutonniere will remain for many years.

    Natural flowers

    These plants are quite capricious and although it is not difficult to create a beautiful composition with them, preserving them will be problematic. Experienced florists use special granules that allow flowers to receive moisture throughout the day.

    This accessory is made from natural flowers if the bride does not additionally use a bouquet.

    To create such masterpieces they often use:

    • orchids;
    • roses;
    • peonies;
    • other flowers.

    It is best to choose plants that are more drought tolerant. It’s not a fact that granules will be able to maintain flowers in their original state all day long. Each plant consumes water differently and this should be taken into account when choosing species.

    From fabric

    Fabric boutonnieres also turn out very beautiful and attractive. They look especially good on brides. In many cases, the production of such an accessory is entrusted to a professional, because not every representative of the fair sex has the gift of sewing.

    You can complement such decoration with decor in the form of buttons, beads, ribbons and much more. In any case, if you give your preference to fabric boutonnieres, you will not be dissatisfied.

    From paper

    Boutonnieres are rarely made from such material, because paper tends to deteriorate quickly. Also, if water gets on it, it will lose its attractiveness. But there are some brides who are not averse to experimenting.

    If you are one of these representatives of the fair sex, then it is worth knowing some of the subtleties of creating a paper boutonniere.

    It is also recommended to practice a few weeks before the wedding. If you succeed, then you can create the final version of the accessory.

    Boutonniere

    A few questions about the flower in the buttonhole.

    • Who is the boutonniere (or boutonniere) for at a wedding?

    According to established tradition, the lapel of the jacket of the groom and witness at a wedding is decorated with a boutonniere or, literally translated, a flower in the buttonhole.

    Boutonnieres can also be used to “highlight” the father of the bride, father of the groom , brothers; for them they are made a little smaller in size than for the groom.

    Usually the boutonniere consists of the same flowers and is made in the same style as the bride's bouquet.

    Younger brothers, nephews of the bride and groom , if they are dressed in suits, as befits real men, can also wear wedding boutonnieres.

    • Who puts the boutonniere on the groom?

    According to ancient tradition, the girl gave her lover a flower from her wedding bouquet as a sign of consent and love.

    If you follow this tradition, then the bride should put the boutonniere on the future husband.

    But nowadays it often happens that the boutonniere is attached to the groom by a florist or bridesmaids . In any case, the groom will need someone's help.

    When ordering a boutonniere, ask how it will be attached to the jacket. There are several “correct” options:

    1. A pin for a boutonniere - that is, a special device that is located on its back. The principle of fastening is the same as on ladies' brooches and Komsomol-pioneer badges - see photo 1. This is the simplest and safest way for the owner of a small flower decoration.
    2. Floral corsage pins - they differ from ordinary sewing pins because they are longer, which allows the boutonniere to hold firmly on the lapel. This type of fastening requires some skill and persistence. How to do it yourself - see photo 2.
    3. Magnets . This mounting option is rarely used. One part of the magnet is placed in the boutonniere, the second is located on the back of the lapel. See photo 3.
    4. putting in a pocket ” as an unprofessional method of fastening.
    • How to transport and store?

    If the boutonniere was not secured by the florist in the morning, then for better preservation it is advisable that it be packaged in a cool place until it is “attached”. It is the responsibility of the florist to pack the flower properly.

    • How long will the boutonniere stay fresh?

    As a rule , wedding flower boutonnieres are made from the most durable fresh flowers that have undergone special “preparation”.

    Much depends on how it will be treated, since this small bouquet will have to endure heat and/or cold and be with the groom in the arms of a large number of guests.

    Therefore, to assume that the wedding day until the festive evening banquet will look exactly the same as in the morning would not be entirely correct.

    But for most of the day he will steadfastly carry out his task.

    Traditionally, it is believed that the boutonniere should remain in the house, as a wedding heirloom , along with the bride's bouquet.

    Before the wedding, the bride has to decide so many questions: what glasses are best for setting the table, what wedding hairstyle to choose and what bonbonnieres to prepare for dear guests! However, that's not all. If you love and value your girlfriends very much, why don’t you make original accessories for them that will be an excellent gift as a memory of your wedding day?

    Bright, stylish bracelets with shiny focal elements will be a pleasant surprise for your beloved girlfriends! All you need is fabric and a creative brooch or rhinestones to help make the bracelet stand out.

    Detailed instructions:

    Of course, if you want to give your girlfriends a gift in honor of your wedding, you can simply purchase original bracelets in the store. However, such a gift will not be memorable. Something you make yourself, using your ideas and choosing your own design, will surely please your bridesmaids more.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTP3kCcO300

    At the very beginning of creative work, cut out two pieces of fabric measuring 5x5 centimeters. We will need these pieces to wrap the ends of the bracelet. Use hot glue to adhere the fabric to the edges of the bracelet. Don't worry if the fabric doesn't look very nice, because soon you will hide all the unevenness under several layers of fabric. Excess fabric or threads can be trimmed.

    Now cut a long strip of fabric, approximately 110x5 cm. Glue the edge of the tape to the inner edge of the bracelet and begin to wrap it layer by layer with the fabric.

    To tightly glue the fabric to the bracelet, use a special hot glue gun. The entire surface of the metal bracelet should be hidden under the fabric.

    Now you need to attach the central element of the bracelet, which will give it its main beauty. If you choose a rhinestone, you can glue it with hot glue, which will prevent it from getting lost at the most inopportune moment.

    However, it is best to use brooches that can be pinned to the fabric. You can use any available means: old earrings or clips and much more. Also vary the styles by using different colors.

    Beautiful bracelets are ready!

    Application options

    The bridesmaids will certainly appreciate such a surprise for the wedding celebration. They will be pleased to know that, despite all the worries in which you are immersed, you have found time to create such charming accessories.

    Boutonniere made of polymer clay or cold porcelain

    Flowers made from polymer clay have a lot of advantages: they can be practically indistinguishable from real ones and will not wither by the evening.

    See, for example, how to make a boutonniere for the groom from roses and forget-me-nots.

    Materials:

    • Polymer clay in blue, white, green and yellow colors.
    • Tape
    • Wire for stems
    • Base for boutonniere
    • PVA glue
    • White satin ribbon
    • Toothpick
    • Scissors

    Making forget-me-nots

    1. Let's start with forget-me-nots. Take a small ball of blue clay and a large ball of white clay.

    1. Mix until smooth. You will get a ball of this blue color.

    1. Pinch off a small piece of clay from the resulting piece and roll it between your palms until you get a small drop.

    1. Cut the droplet with scissors into 5 parts (according to the number of petals of the flower).

    1. Roll out each petal with a toothpick.

    1. You need to roll a small stamen from yellow clay and insert it into the middle of the forget-me-not.

    1. Place the finished flower on a wire coated with PVA glue.

    1. The result is this forget-me-not.

    1. 13-15 flowers will be enough for a boutonniere.

    Making a rose

    1. To make a rose, take a ball of white clay and divide it into 9 equal parts.

    1. Smear each ball over your palm so that it turns out quite thin.

    1. Roll the first petal into a tight tube, and wrap the next ones around it.

    1. The more petals, the more magnificent the bud will be.

    1. The last petals can be made more open.

    1. Let's move on to making the sheet. To do this, you need to take green clay and use your palms to shape the piece into a droplet.

    1. Mash a drop on a mold (a special form for a leaf) to get the desired texture.

    Assembling the boutonniere

    The elements for the boutonniere are ready, all that remains is to put them together.

    1. To do this, wrap all the flowers with green tape: first, forget-me-nots.

    This is what the finished boutonniere components look like

    1. Using tape, connect the leaf to the rose, add first one, then another branch of forget-me-nots.

    1. First wrap the entire bouquet with tape, then attach the base for the boutonniere to it (for example, a safety pin), and then wrap it with a white satin ribbon.

    The boutonniere is ready!

    We also invite you to watch a video master class on creating a boutonniere from polymer clay “Rose and Blueberries”.

    A little imagination and experience and you will get a wonderful boutonniere for the groom, like in the photo!

    How and when does the groom wear a boutonniere?

    In almost all cases, the bride puts the boutonniere on the groom after the ransom has passed. The young man gives a bouquet, and the girl attaches a flower to her jacket as a sign of love. You can add a little variety to this ancient tradition that came to us from Rome. Place a boutonniere in the bride's bouquet so that she can give her future husband a flower from her own bouquet, as was done in the past.

    The boutonniere should be attached to the left lapel of the groom's jacket or suit pocket. If you decide to order such accessories for guests, there is one nuance - married men attach flowers on the right, and single men on the left. When choosing not a standard, but a slightly curved boutonniere, you need to attach it with a safety pin to the pocket and carefully drape the tail so that it is not visible.

    If you prefer the classic version, then you need to attach the flowers in the pocket area, and place the tip (along with the capsule) in the pocket, but so that it does not stand out too much. The hairpin will support the boutonniere and it will not fall. Sometimes this accessory is attached to a thin fabric (for example, a shirt), then the tail of the flower is placed in a pocket, and the pin is fastened from the inside, closer to the body.

    Boutonnieres for witnesses: a difficult decoration

    Preparations begin for such an important event as a wedding long before the appointed date. It often happens that, being carried away by solving the most important issues, we lose attention to equally important little things. In a wedding context, the role of such little things is played by boutonnieres for witnesses.

    31.10.2013

    The funny, and for many, mysterious word “boutonniere” is of French origin and means “flower in the buttonhole.”

    In everyday life, you are unlikely to see this accessory on someone’s suit (unless, of course, you know some extravagant man or Oscar Wilde), but at a wedding it would be quite appropriate.

    Boutonnieres for witnesses will not only decorate the outfits of the people whom you have endowed with this status, but will also help them stand out from the rest of the guests.

    How to choose boutonnieres for witnesses

    The best dressed at the wedding, of course, should be the future husband and wife. But we must not forget that the clothes of the guests should also correspond to the chosen color scheme and style of the holiday. This is especially true for parents of young people and witnesses.

    What to do with flowers after the wedding?

    Is it possible to store a wedding bouquet after the wedding?
    The bride's bouquet is an attribute that is charged with strong energy. He is present with the bride throughout the wedding day. Tears drip into him, he hears ringing laughter, feels boundless happiness and bitterness from parting with his girlhood. The bouquet is filled with a different range of emotions, most of which are considered good.

    At the end of the celebration at many weddings, brides throw their bouquet to their bridesmaids. It is believed that the young lady who caught him will marry next. And this is where the custom ends. Many girls are sure that they must save the accessory for a happy married life.

    In fact, this is not true. A friend just needs to catch the bouquet. By the way, esotericists advise against bringing a flower arrangement home at all. After all, it can only bring disappointment to the family.

    It happens that the bride does not throw away her accessory or uses a double. After the ceremony, the girl carries the bouquet home. The bride is allowed to do this. The flower arrangement should not be placed in the bedroom. The ideal place for it would be a kitchen or living room. This is where the bouquet can stand in a vase with water for a long time. You will still have the opportunity to enjoy the purchased flower arrangement.

    Boutonniere on hand - a stylish decoration for bridesmaids

    A bridesmaid at a wedding is a key person who stays next to the bride throughout the entire event. This is a responsible “position” that involves not only participation in the ransom and competitions, but also maintaining the image of the bride. the boutonniere plays a very important role for the witness . The accessory should be as similar as possible to the bride’s bouquet; sometimes its design echoes her hairstyle and jewelry. For a friend, the bracelet can be made slightly larger than for other girls.

    What should it be?

    A traditional long and fluffy veil is an attribute of a wedding. For a bachelorette party, a frivolous short and bright model is more suitable.

    Since the event is usually held actively, often in a club or in the fresh air, the gathered girls have a logical desire to stand out from the crowd and at the same time not complicate the outfit with uncomfortable accessories.

    Therefore, the veil for a bachelorette party is light, short, and not too fluffy. To attach to hair or a headdress (hat, baseball cap), hairpins, clips, hoops, small combs or bobby pins are used.

    Additionally: look for more ideas for a bright and memorable evening in our large “Bachelorette Party” section.

    When choosing an accessory, you need to consider:

    • a clear difference between the bride and the bridesmaids. The difference may be in the color of the veil, its length and/or shape, and decorations. Often, before the wedding, girls choose a model made of white tulle, organza or chiffon, supplying their friends with colored ones - red, green, blue;
    • method of attaching the product to the head. For short haircuts of bachelorette party participants, it is better to choose hoops or hats/baseball caps; for long hair, hairpins and bobby pins, combs are suitable; in the hairstyle, it is more convenient to fasten the veil with hairpins or a comb (for example, in the style of a Spanish mantilla);
    • correspondence of the style and color of the product to the bridesmaids’ outfits and the location of the bachelorette party.

    Important: the ban on wearing a veil before or after the wedding (for married women) is a common superstition. If you follow them, then the bachelorette party should become a mourning of an unmarried life, farewell to girlfriends, tears and sad songs

    A bachelorette party in a European-American style and a veil for it are intended for those who do not believe in omens. Therefore, the answer to the question of whether a married woman can wear a veil at her friends’ party is “of course yes” and have fun until you drop.

    How to easily make a bracelet for bridesmaids:

    For a perfect wedding, you need to think through every little detail. It happens that a small deviation from the script can affect the mood of the newlyweds. To create a complete look, bridesmaids should also take care of their outfits. Ideally, they should complement the image of the hero of the occasion.

    An unusual accessory for this occasion is a wedding bracelet for bridesmaids. It does not restrict movement and looks very impressive.

    How to choose the right wedding bracelet

    In wedding salons you can find a wide range of these accessories. There are products with rhinestones, flowers and ribbons. It is best to choose a bracelet for bridesmaids to match the dress.

    The same outfits look good with the same type of accessories. For slender people, flower bracelets are suitable for bridesmaids; for girls with curves, it is better to use products of impressive sizes. They are easy to make yourself.

    Where to get bracelets

    These accessories are sold in specialized stores, or you can also make them yourself. Each option has its advantages and disadvantages.

    Purchased products always look professional and stylish. You can choose matching organic bracelets for your bridesmaids. Their disadvantage is that they are pre-made. By the end of the festive event, they may lose their elegant appearance.

    If you don’t want to make flower arrangements, you can easily replace them with ribbon bracelets. You can add rhinestones and colored beads to them. Products can be completely different in color, but of the same style.

    Making a bracelet from ribbons

    DIY bracelets for bridesmaids are not that difficult

    It is important that they fit the overall style of the wedding. Therefore, it is necessary to choose ribbons according to the color and texture of the dress.

    Cuttings must be made with reserves for the bow. You will also need a thread, a needle and beads. Ribbon bracelets for bridesmaids come in different variations.

    You need to thread the ribbon onto the needle, leaving folds. It should be a perfect accordion. After some distance, you need to add beads, and tie a beautiful bow at the end.

    There may be more beads on the bracelet. Then they need to be strung on a ribbon. Alternatively, you can tie a knot after each element, this will add a special charm.

    You can use translucent beads or, conversely, pearl type. All this is a matter of taste and color. The main thing is that the products are the same.

    Another option is DIY flower bracelets for bridesmaids. Making them is just as simple and won’t take much time.

    How to make a flower bracelet

    The best solution is to choose a ready-made bracelet that will match the flower arrangement. This may be a chain or necklace of suitable length.

    Afterwards you need to prepare a flower arrangement. Cut off the stems of the flowers and fasten them together with glue. You can add beautiful leaves and extra petals.

    At the final stage, the resulting composition must be glued to the chain.

    To preserve this bracelet for your bridesmaids, keep it in the refrigerator until you use it. This will keep it looking fresh longer and last all day.

    Place ragwort branches and additional foliage on a cardboard circle. Fix all this with glue. Fill the free space with spray roses and flowers.

    The aluminum wire is folded in half and wrapped with a satin ribbon. Thus, a kind of rim is obtained. In the middle you need to attach the resulting composition.

    It is important that the bracelet for the bridesmaids is reliable; you need to place a cardboard circle under the bouquet. Excess details are cut off

    At this stage everything is ready.

    Boutonniere for bridesmaids

    Every bride wants her wedding to be perfect, because it is one of the most important days in life .

    Made from satin ribbons - beautiful and original

    Recently, various decorations made from satin ribbons have become very popular. This trend has also not bypassed wedding fashion. Needlewomen will be able to make a boutonniere with their own hands from satin ribbons. Flowers can be created in several ways:

    • from a simple satin ribbon of medium thickness;
    • from individual petals, which are cut out according to a satin ribbon pattern;
    • made of satin ribbon using the kanzashi technique.

    The bride can please her chosen one and present him with an accessory made with her own hands. To create it you need to take: thread, a needle, satin ribbons of different colors 2.5 cm wide, scissors, a lighter or candle, a pin, a button and a ruler.

    The ribbons are cut into pieces 8.5 cm long (6 pieces), 11 cm long (7 pieces), 6 cm long (5 pieces) and sealed with fire at the edges. A segment of 11 cm is bent in the middle at a right angle. The edge, which is directed to the right, is bent back, comparing with the base. This is the first petal. Several stitches are passed through its base and lowered to the end of the thread. The same is done with other pieces of ribbon of 8.5 and 6 cm, collecting the petals on a thread and creating flowers.

    The result is three flowers of different diameters, which are connected to each other by overlapping and threading a thread through the center. Then a button is sewn on top in the middle of the smallest bud, and a small pin is attached to the wrong side of the decoration.

    Popular colors of boutonnieres

    To always stay on trend, it is best to use classic white, pink and beige flowers for boutonnieres. However, this is only if such shades predominate in the bride’s outfit and accessories. For example, turquoise boutonnieres , which will successfully match the satin belt on the bride’s dress of the same tone or the flowers in the bouquet.

    Don’t forget about boutonnieres for the groom and his friends - all decorations should be ordered or created in the same style . Consult your future husband; his opinion is also very important when choosing a color scheme.

    green boutonniere for jacket
    Boutonniere for the groom

    A boutonniere is an accessory that everyone associates with a wedding. In addition, this decoration will become a cute souvenir for the bridesmaids and groomsmen.

    You can take a great idea for creating boutonnieres with your own hands from the following video:

    Advantages and disadvantages

    An elegant bracelet on the hand of a bridesmaid is beautiful and delicate. The accessory is made from different materials: from fresh and artificial flowers, to beads, ribbons, berries and seashells.

    A wedding accessory has its pros and cons, and they are often associated with the quality of the work performed and the materials used. If fresh flowers were used for production, the period during which it will look presentable is 4-6 hours.

    The exception is bracelets, the basis of which is a small oasis soaked in water. But such a bracelet also has a disadvantage - it is heavy and bulky, so it does not look so elegant on a thin, delicate hand.

    More advantages of accessories made from artificial flowers:

    • a huge assortment of flowers and greenery;
    • presentable appearance of the product for a long time;
    • the ability to order in advance or make it yourself;
    • the opportunity to use after the end of the event and keep it as a keepsake.

    The more complex the accessory, the more time it takes to produce it and the higher the price. The average cost of a bracelet from a good florist starts from 300 - 500 rubles, you can buy them a little cheaper on needlework and hand-made websites.

    Another option is to make a suitable accessory yourself. The set of tools and materials is minimal. Read about this in detail below.

    Does the groom need a boutonniere: its meaning and traditions

    The tradition of using flowers as decoration at various holidays and rituals appeared a long time ago. So, in ancient times in Rome and Greece, people decorated their heads with wreaths, in which they used both fresh and artificial flowers.

    The wreath was a mandatory attribute of the holidays; in addition, it was awarded to the winners of various competitions. And according to wedding customs, the bride always prepared a talisman for her lover, which was a miniature bouquet of flowers and fragrant herbs. She presented such a bouquet to the groom’s heart.

    It is believed that it was this custom that gave rise to the tradition of pinning a boutonniere on the groom at a wedding.

    But to be more precise, this attribute has French roots and literally translates as “flower in the buttonhole.”

    This name is due to the fact that at one time, when a revolution was taking place in France, the nobles who were sentenced to hanging went to execution, decorating their chest with a red carnation with a buttonhole, thereby expressing their fearlessness.

    Later, representatives of social life began to decorate their outfits with this accessory, thereby demonstrating their wealth and status. But in the form in which we are accustomed to seeing a boutonniere on the groom, the well-known Prince Charles appeared at the wedding for the first time.

    Answering the question “does the groom need a boutonniere?”, it is enough to say about the meaning of this attribute.

    So, it must be done in the same style and with the same flowers as the bride’s bouquet, since this symbolizes the union of two hearts, and the young people now belong to each other.

    The bride attaches this symbol to the left pocket of the suit before painting, or after the ransom, and after the end of the celebration, it is under no circumstances thrown away and is kept in the family.

    Of course, during celebrations and ceremonies, fragile floral arrangements on a jacket can break. For this reason, some use artificial ones, but still, live ones look much more beautiful and noble.

    But the problem can be solved if a rose has been chosen - it will last until the evening, but delicate orchids can break, so many couples order another copy so that they can be replaced at the right time.

    Who should wear wedding accessories boutonnieres?

    Not only the groom can have a boutonniere as a wedding accessory - in addition to him, witnesses of the newlyweds, their parents, brothers and sisters often wear it. Thus, the circle of the closest people and relatives is clearly outlined, and sometimes it is dressed for all young unmarried boys and girls.

    Moreover, they should differ in size, decor, colors or colors used. Of course, the young one should have the most magnificent one, while others should have a little more modest and smaller sizes.

    Naturally, there are no specific rules or requirements regarding the choice; these are solely the tastes and preferences of the newlyweds themselves, who themselves decide on the material, colors and shape.

    Quite often, wedding accessories, boutonnieres for guests, are made from artificial materials, for this they use beads, decorative lace, ribbons, wire and even twigs.

    Nowadays, the creation of this accessory has grown into a real art among florists, designers and needlewomen.

    And now it’s not just a flower with a ribbon, but a whole work of art, which sometimes amazes not only with its beauty, but also with its complexity and even extravagance.

    Many people may worry that living flowers may leave traces of pollen on their clothes.

    Now this is not a cause for concern, since florists spray the product with a special solution that will not leave any traces.

    In addition, the stem of the flower is placed in a special small flask with water and sealed. This way, water will not get on the jacket, and the plant will retain its freshness for a long time and will not wither.

    Returning to a boutonniere made of artificial materials, which will also be an excellent choice for a gift for guests, it is worth noting several advantages. Firstly, this is the most acceptable option for a winter wedding, especially when frost is raging outside, plus you need to wear a coat on top, which can ruin all the beauty of a living flower.

    Artificial materials will naturally survive such troubles; in extreme cases, it’s enough to just fix it a little and that’s it. And most importantly, it is a memory that lasts a lifetime and will never fade. Therefore, this wedding accessory made from similar materials will be the best choice for guests.

    As for the young one, of course, it is better to give preference to living plants that will be combined with the bride’s bouquet. In addition, we must not forget about the combination with the groom’s tie: everything should be harmonious.

    You can also safely play with contrasts, which is also very popular now, the main thing is not to overdo it and do everything to suit you!

    Options for making flower boutonnieres

    A compact, original flower arrangement, in the form of a bouquet, is compiled taking into account the tastes and privileges of the bride. She, by right of first vote, must choose her favorite flowers that will be included in the bouquet and boutonniere. These can also be symbolic plants, perhaps reminiscent of a first date or the day when the issue of joining destinies was decided. The most common favorite options remain roses, peonies, calla lilies and orchids. Other inflorescences can be added to them to complete the composition.

    Mini composition of roses

    The latest step in fashionable floristry has been the transition from using one rose bud in a mini-bouquet to an entire flower arrangement. For this purpose, small buds of a bush rose are often used, surrounded by a fresh green twig. The color scheme can be bright, rich or pastel shades. A classic bouquet with a rose will suit any style of the bride’s wedding dress, making her image even more delicate and attractive.

    Peony boutonniere

    A seasonal spring flower will perfectly convey the mood of a wedding celebration. Peony, as a symbol of blossoming and fragrant love, will become a gentle addition to the newlywed’s wedding dress. A blossoming peony bud, looking like a smaller copy of the bride’s skirt, will add even more charm to the hero of the occasion. A boutonniere with peony buds looks no less good. A varied palette of colors will help you make your choice.

    Orchid boutonniere

    A wonderful option for an elegant wedding is a boutonniere with orchids. This amazing flower will highlight the style, luxury and elegance of the bride’s attire. An orchid is a self-sufficient flower, so a created mono-bouquet of only one plant variety will decorate the bride’s hand or dress no worse than complex flower arrangements. The stem is placed in a capsule with a special solution to prolong the viability of the flower. Bright or light petals of a delicate orchid will equally become a wonderful decoration that will attract attention.

    Paper boutonnieres

    Wedding boutonnieres for guests can even be made from paper, and you don’t need any special talents in needlework for this. Such unique “memory cards” will not cost you much, so you can please your friends and loved ones. Light shades are ideal for a wedding ceremony, but white paper will look too simple, so it is recommended to use materials in bright and pastel colors, which can be beautifully combined to create a lovely composition. Flowers skillfully created from seemingly ordinary paper will look realistic and very elegant.

    To create voluminous boutonnieres, it is best to use corrugated paper. Using this textured material, you can create compositions from large buds, and the difference between the imitation and the real flower will be invisible.

    Peony from individual petals, master class

    The peony is a flower of noble origin, since in the distant past in the countries of the East only important people grew this plant on their plots. Now peony is found in almost all countries, and its popularity is only growing. From satin ribbons you can create an excellent artificial imitation with your own hands, very similar to the original itself. To do this you will need:

    • Satin ribbon of a certain shade, 5-6 cm wide.
    • Thin threads matching the color of the ribbon.
    • Needle.
    • Sharp scissors.
    • Glue gun.
    • Wire and pin.
    • Sequins or small yellow beads.
    • Paper for creating a pattern.
    • Candle and matches.

    To create a peony from satin ribbons with your own hands, you must first create a pattern of petals.
    To do this, on a piece of paper you will need to draw a blank five centimeters high or a little less in the shape of a wide heart with the tip cut off on the straight side, the base should be about 25 mm. Using this pattern, you need to cut out six identical petals, then reduce the workpiece by five mm, and cut out the next six parts, and then repeat the action again. As a result, we should have eighteen petals in three groups of different sizes.

    Let's light a candle and burn each petal in turn on all sides over its fire. To do this, we slowly take the workpiece with our own hands and bring one edge to the flame, and when it is scorched, we immediately stretch it in all directions.

    This is done so that the petal becomes wavy, similar to a real petal. When all the edges are finished and stretched, place the workpiece over the fire for a short time, holding it with tweezers so that it takes the desired shape.

    In order not to spoil the cut out petals, let’s practice before working on the remaining extra piece of satin.

    Then you need to make stamens, for this you need to cut a couple of pieces of wire about 5-6 cm long. You need to squeeze a drop of glue onto one end of each piece using a gun, then dip our stamen in glitter or small beads and create an even drop. When the stamen is dry, you can further decorate it with clear nail polish to achieve a glossy surface.

    The final step is to assemble the peony from satin ribbons together; to do this, we sew six large petals together at the base with our “needle forward” seam, leaving a hole in the middle for the stamens.

    When the base is created, you need to put the holes created by the stamens inside and strengthen the structure. Then, still stitching it, from the wrong side. After this, all that remains is to sew on all the remaining petals, starting with the middle ones and ending with the small parts. Now we have finished our master class, don’t be afraid to make crafts from foamiran, the guests at the wedding will really like them. Even though the flowers are artificial, they will look as if they were alive.

    Last boutonniere assembly: master class

    When the main flower for the wedding is made from a satin ribbon, you can move on to making your own boutonniere from foamiran for the groom for the wedding.
    To do this, you need to thread a wire through the finished bud and bend it into the shape of a stem. To make the structure tight, you can thread two identical pieces of wire perpendicular to each other, and then also bend them down. The wire will need to be wrapped with a special green tape. You can add various decorations to the main flower, for example, you can create decorative greenery with your own hands using the principle of creating stamens, or add leaves cut out and set on fire from a green satin ribbon. Having collected all the parts together, you need to create a single stem of the boutonniere from wire and our ribbon.

    If possible, the assembled boutonniere can be decorated with a simple “skirt” made of organza or tulle. You can also glue rhinestones or beads onto the main bud if they match the groom’s outfit and the bride’s bouquet. The finished accessory is attached to the jacket using a small safety pin. In the same way, you can create a boutonniere for your bridesmaids with your own hands.

    Option with chiffon flower

    Here, for example, is how you can make a headband on an openwork ribbon with an artificial chiffon flower:

    1. To begin, make an oval petal template from cardboard or thick paper and carefully cut it out with scissors.
    2. Then take a piece of chiffon measuring approximately 20 by 50 cm, attach a pattern to it and cut out thirty-three petals along the contour.
    3. The edges of each resulting petal must be melted over the flame of a candle or lighter so that the fabric does not fray.
    4. Give each petal a cone shape. To do this, you need to fold the petal and bring it to the fire with the sharp end, and then press the edges with your fingers as quickly as possible. This must be done with all the petals from the workpiece.
    5. Cut out the base for the flower from cardboard - a circle with a diameter of three to four centimeters.
    6. Carefully glue eight petals to the cardboard circle.
    7. Continue gluing the next petals, decreasing one in each layer. That is, there will be seven petals in the second layer, six in the third, and so on.
    8. Make a flower core. To do this, you need to take a circle of silk or chiffon with a diameter of four centimeters, stitch it with thread along the edges, put scraps of fabric or cotton wool in the center and tighten the thread. You will get a fabric ball.
    9. This ball needs to be covered with rhinestones or small beads glued on. Then glue it into the center of the made flower.
    10. Take a beautiful lace ribbon, cut 35-40 centimeters so that you can wrap it around your wrist and tie a beautiful bow. Carefully sew or glue the flower to the ribbon. The bandage is ready!

    Review of materials

    To understand how to make a boutonniere with your own hands, you should first decide on the choice of materials. Most people entrust the production of this wedding attribute to professional florists or wedding planners. Usually the decoration is made from natural, less often artificial flowers. Boutonnieres are also made from unusual types of raw materials, which may even include clay or porcelain.

    Fresh and artificial flowers

    Often newlyweds choose jewelry made from natural flowers, which are complemented by various elements:

    • plants, leaves;
    • small natural or artificial berries;
    • beads;
    • ribbons;
    • pieces of fabric;
    • special decorative mesh or wire.

    Before you make a flower boutonniere for a wedding with your own hands, you need to decide on the types of plants:

    1. Rose is the most common classic flower that symbolizes love and sincerity of feelings. For men's boutonnieres, small buds are often chosen that look harmonious with a suit or match the color scheme of a tie or bow tie.
    2. Freesia is a bright flower that looks good as a decoration on both the groom’s jacket and the bride’s bracelet.
    3. Peonies are delicate, beautiful flowers that symbolize restraint and spiritual purity. Used to make boutonnieres for the bride and witness.
    4. Irises are a symbol of courage and strength, for this reason they are mainly used on boutonnieres for the groom or his witnesses.
    5. Tulip is a common option for creating wedding decorations. Often one unopened or slightly blossomed bud is used, which can be supplemented with a green leaf.
    6. Orchid - this flower is a symbol of luxury and grace. The main reason for choosing such a plant is the wide range of colors, among which you can choose the most suitable options for decorating your wedding dress. Typically, orchids are used in independent compositions and are not added to the decor.
    7. Callas - symbolize elegance and tenderness, well suited for a classic wedding in subdued colors. The most common option is a boutonniere on the hand or a jacket made of flowers in white and pink shades.

    Foamiran

    Foamiran is a foam material that is used in needlework to make various decorative elements; its structure resembles a sponge. Due to its flexibility, it is easy to give it the desired shape. Before making anything from foamiran, it should be preheated, then it will stretch well. After cooling, the material retains its resulting shape. Due to its obvious advantages and low cost, this material has become popular in the field of wedding decor, where it is most often used to create boutonnieres or other small accessories.

    Ribbons

    Using satin ribbons with your own hands, you can complement a composition of fresh flowers or make your own decoration. The main advantage of this material is its low cost and relatively simple process of making the accessory, but creation requires some handicraft skills. A boutonniere made of satin ribbons will be an excellent option for a winter wedding, where low temperatures can negatively affect fresh flowers. Before using satin material to make a boutonniere, you need to carefully consider the design and color scheme.

    Organza and mesh

    Using a combination of organza and decorative mesh, you can create an elegant and simple wedding decoration. Most often, artificial flowers are made from such materials with the addition of ribbons and other decorative elements. From mesh and organza you can make a single bud or a composition of several flowers that intertwine with each other. To make the simplest boutonniere from these materials, you need to cut out circles of different sizes and pre-burn the edges - this is necessary so that the material does not begin to crumble. After this, all layers are sequentially placed on top of each other from large to small and the entire structure is secured with a pin or special beads.

    Silk

    When creating a boutonniere, silk acts as the main material, which makes up most of the entire composition. This fabric is very delicate and easily damaged, so when working with it you need to be careful and have a little experience in needlework. Silk flowers look elegant and delicate, and to create contrasts and accents, satin ribbons, mesh, and various decorative accessories can be used with this material. Do-it-yourself boutonnieres made of silk in pastel colors look especially elegant, which are suitable for classic weddings as decoration for bridesmaids.

    Polymer clay

    Every year, polymer clay is becoming an increasingly popular material for making not only boutonnieres, but even bridal bouquets. Despite the name, flowers made on this basis look quite natural. In the case of professionally performed work, they cannot be distinguished from natural ones. Another advantage of polymer clay is the long service life of such wedding attribute. In addition, the material is hypoallergenic and is suitable for those who react poorly to pollen.

    Creative ideas

    Wedding boutonnieres can be made from buttons, decorative or natural feathers, ears of wheat, pine cones and other items. The main thing is to adhere to several rules:

    • the accessory should fit the overall theme of the wedding;
    • you need to choose organic colors to match your festive outfit;
    • if the idea is original, it must correspond to the interests or preferences of the owner.

    If you want to stand out, you can make your own boutonnieres from almost any materials that were not originally intended for creating jewelry. Similar accessories are even made from buttons or caramel candies. You just have to take into account the weather conditions so that the boutonniere does not leave stains on your clothes.
