Multifunctional orange manicure stick

To delete or not to delete – that is the question

For those girls who are far from manicure, a logical question arises: why remove this fabric at all if it performs a protective function. There may be several reasons:

  • overgrown and unkempt cuticles cause hangnails;
  • because of it, disturbances in normal nail growth may occur;
  • Due to the presence of a cuticle, the entire manicure as a whole looks untidy.

Well-groomed fingers with neat cuticlesWell-groomed fingers
Most often, this fabric is removed because of the untidiness it brings to the image. Overgrown nails are unlikely to look beautiful and elegant, but this does not mean that you need to fight the cuticle every day. Usually, masters remove it during the procedure, and the tissue around the nail grows within 2-3 weeks, remaining invisible.

Most often, the procedure involves cutting the tissue. This classic option is suitable for both home and professional cuticle removal, but has a lot of disadvantages. Chief among them is the possibility of bleeding if you do not work carefully with manicure accessories.

That is why other methods are gaining popularity, involving the dissolution of keratinized cells using special compounds.

Trimming manicure requires more preparation, attentiveness and accuracy; it is better to trust it to professionals. But, if you are confident in yourself, this method can also be used at home.

Full instructions are appropriate here:

  1. Before the procedure, do not forget to treat your instruments and hands with an antiseptic. Of course, we sterilize everything first - this is the default.
  2. Steam the cuticle in the bath. You can have a spa moment by adding aroma oils and sea salt, or simply make a soap solution. Afterwards, wipe your hands dry with a towel.
  3. Use a pusher or an orange stick to push back the cuticle and thoroughly clean the nail plate. There should be no difficulties with steamed cuticle.
  4. To remove, use forceps or cuticle scissors. Here the choice is yours - as you wish. Please note that the tools must be well sharpened. Oddly enough, the risk of injuring the skin with dull blades is higher. It is more convenient to start from the sides and finish in the middle. Ideally, we cut straight the first time to avoid burrs in the future.
  5. Do not try to remove as much as possible; it is better to remove a thin, neat strip. And remember that the cuticle still performs a protective function, which means you shouldn’t cut it at the root.

We talked about two ways to remove cuticles, but we also remember about hardware manicure. It’s just that this option requires special preparation, and a description of the technique will not be enough to perform it. Manicure machines operate at high speed; with sharp cutters it is very easy to damage not only the thin skin, but also the nail, and even the hand. To remove cuticles with a device, it is better to undergo special training, at least start with our webinar. For a classic manicure, special preparation will also not be superfluous. ;)

Popular methods

All options for destroying the protective tissue around the nail can be divided into 2 groups: with and without circumcision. The first method is the most common, and the second is considered much more preferable, because it allows you to make a neat manicure without pain and the risk of bleeding.

When working with cuticles, you must use only high-quality, disinfected tools. Otherwise, there is a risk of introducing bacteria.

With circumcision

The first and most important thing to do is to disinfect the materials.

Disinfection is carried out either with alcohol or with the help of a special lamp that destroys bacteria.

The next step is to soften the tissue to be removed. To do this, you need to wash your hands and place them in warm water with the addition of plenty of sea salt. After about 10 minutes you can begin removing the cuticle.

What steps will you have to follow here:

  1. Using a push-up, the pterygium (thin film around the nail) is removed.
  2. The same tool gently pushes back the cuticle, while completely cleaning the nail itself.
  3. Next, using tweezers, the keratinized skin is removed, and you need to start from the sides, gradually moving to the middle of the nail.
  4. After all the skin has been removed, you will have to treat the nail with a caring oil or a special cuticle product.

There is no need to try to grab large pieces of skin with tweezers. Pulling movements should also be avoided as they increase the risk of skin injury.

There is no need to rush in this process, since sometimes you have to spend 10-15 minutes to remove all traces of the cuticle, leaving no room for hangnails. Afterwards, you can cover your nails with a colored coating or a strengthening one to grow natural nails. The method in which the tissue is removed without cutting is called “European”. Its main advantage is that it is almost impossible to damage the nail. Moreover, this method is absolutely not painful and involves the use of special compounds.

Cuticle remover E.MI

The following compositions are considered the most common:

  • remover or special gel, which is applied to problem areas for 10-15 minutes, after which all that remains is to remove pieces of cuticle, wash your hands and apply care cream;
  • a pencil for removing cuticles, which needs to cover all the places where keratinized tissue has formed;
  • You can also remove the skin using a special oil, which is applied to the problem area and washed off along with the cuticle after 15-20 minutes.

When choosing a remover, you should definitely pay attention to the composition. Gentle care will be provided only by a remover or pencil that does not contain harmful chemicals.

This method is used by many ladies at home, since the “European” removal turns out to be simple and painless. The products themselves are not cheap, but they help maintain your nails in optimal condition for many months.

To finally understand how to remove cuticles at home, watch the video from “Beauty School” and the charming Lena Sevelenium:

Using a cutter and an orange stick

The “European” version of cuticle removal very often involves the use of an orange stick. It itself is an oblong wooden stick with pointed ends. To remove the skin with its help, you need to apply a softening composition to the nail, and after 10 minutes, wash your hands and remove the cuticle with careful movements of the stick.

The device helps remove keratinized tissue without pain and extra effort. A softened cuticle easily comes off the nail, but this does not mean that you can use an orange stick without special compounds.

Hardware manicure involves the use of a special cutter. How to remove tissue step by step in this case:

  1. The surface of the nail is degreased, the cuticle is pushed back with an orange stick or push-up.
  2. Next, use a cone file to process the nail in two directions, first from left to right, then vice versa.
  3. After this, the entire plate is cleaned using a ball-shaped nozzle, and rough areas are treated with a rectangular nozzle.

In advanced sets you can find another attachment - a felt one. You need to work with such a device carefully, since pressing hard on the nail increases the risk of injury.

How to remove cuticles at home

If you like to remove the cuticle completely, cutting it to the base, it is better not to experiment, but to seek help from a specialist. In other cases, you can maintain a well-groomed appearance of your hands at home if going to the salon is impossible for some reason.

All methods for removing cuticles can be divided into two categories:

  • Uncut types of procedures;
  • Classic edged manicure.

All procedures have their own subtleties, and some also require additional nail preparation for cuticle removal.

Preparation for procedures

  • Before manicure, the skin must be softened and steamed. To do this, you need to make a bath with warm water, where you can add sea salt, essential oils (tea tree, orange, lemon, grapefruit - no more than 2 drops), soap. Keep your hands in warm water for about 15-20 minutes.

Steaming is a mandatory procedure before a classic cut manicure and in a European (uncut) manicure to achieve a better effect. If the cuticle practically does not grow back and is very tender, you can do a trimless manicure on dry skin.

  • Sometimes after a bath, a nourishing cream or oil is applied to the skin to further soften and moisturize the cuticle.

Classic manicure

Classic manicure

Despite all the innovations and variety of methods for removing cuticles, many manicurists and women themselves prefer a classic manicure. This is the most dangerous type of manicure. It is easy to injure or cut yourself during the procedure. Due to improper trimming, the cuticle may grow incorrectly and the nail may begin to peel.

In addition, the wound may become infected. That is why you need to do a manicure only with sterile instruments. Thoroughly treat your tool kit with alcohol or antiseptics, even if you are the only one using it. Don’t hesitate to ask the salon whether specialists sterilize instruments and how exactly they do it.

You can trim the cuticle with nippers, scissors or a special trimmer . All instruments must be of high quality, preferably made of medical steel. Only sharpened tools may be used. Otherwise, the cuticle will tear, and such manipulations will do more harm than good.

For the procedure you will also need any manicure file, the only thing is that it should not be metal. Such files disrupt the structure of the nail. You can shape and file your nail only when it’s dry! After the nails are filed, you need to steam the skin using a bath.

  1. After the steaming procedure, the cuticle must be pushed back with an orange stick or pusher.
  2. Slowly cut away the pterygium using your chosen tool. The movements should start from the side and go in an arc. It is important that the cuticle must be removed by cutting, and not by pinching or tearing it off.
  3. If cuts do appear, they can be treated with hydrogen peroxide or chlorhexidine.
  4. After the procedure, apply oil to the cuticle.

It is best to contact trusted specialists for this procedure who know exactly how to trim the cuticle correctly.

How to properly remove cuticles without cutting

If you do a manicure at home yourself, it is better to avoid cutting the cuticles and give preference to other types of manicure.

European manicure

European manicure

One of the safest and most convenient hand care options is a European manicure. To perform such a procedure, no special specific skills are required; it is safe and easy to perform. For a European manicure, you only need a special chemical based on fruit acids and an orange stick.

Attention! Be very careful when choosing a product. Unscrupulous manufacturers often use alkalis and acids in their products, which cause harm to the nail plate.

Additionally you may find it useful:

  • Cuticle file (resembles a honeycomb).
  • Europemza . When a cuticle remover does not give the desired effect or your hands are very neglected, a special European pumice may come in handy. It consists of aluminum and porcelain.
  • Pencil . This product is easy to use and compact. It also serves to soften cuticles and often contains oils.

There are three ways to carry out the procedure:

  1. Dry . The skin is not steamed; the product is applied to dry skin.
  2. With steaming . As a rule, it gives a more noticeable and high-quality result.
  3. Hot method . It is difficult to use at home, as it requires a special container in which the gel is heated to 50°C.

When the cuticle is hard and neglected, sometimes a combined method is used: the cuticle is treated with a European manicure product, and then the remains are cut off.

Procedure

Cuticle removers must be used strictly according to the instructions. You should not overuse the procedure and do it daily or keep the cream on the cuticle for longer than the specified time. This can achieve the opposite effect: the cuticle will begin to dry out and crack even more.

  • Step 1. Apply the product to the cuticle. It is better to apply 2-3 fingers at a time so as not to overexpose the composition to the skin.
  • Step 2. Leave the composition for the time specified in the instructions, often this takes about 5-10 minutes.
  • Step 3. Remove the remaining cream with a cotton pad.
  • Step 4. Remove the cuticle with an orange stick.
  • Step 5. After the procedure, be sure to apply moisturizer or cuticle oil.

With this method, the cuticle begins to grow more slowly, becomes softer and thinner, and stops cracking. And if the products also contain essential oils, then a manicure session will turn into real aromatherapy.

It is recommended to do the European manicure procedure no more than once a week.

Pushing back the cuticle

If the cuticle grows slowly, is not prone to dryness and is very tender, you can get by with regular steaming and pushing back the cuticle with an orange stick.

This method is suitable if you are one of those lucky women whose cuticles take a month or more to grow.

Cuticle Remover Tools

Hardware manicure

The cuticle can also be removed with a special device. Hardware manicure is also without trimming.

The minimum set includes cutters of two shapes: cone and ball . Diamond tips are used to remove cuticles, but in addition to them there are also ceramic and silicon carbide tips.

Hardware manicure gives excellent results and is perfect for gel polish lovers. However, it is better to do it in a salon with a knowledgeable specialist.

You can buy such a set for yourself. The stores offer a wide variety of electric manicure devices, from the cheapest to the more professional and expensive.

Rules for removing gel polish from cuticles

Often, inexperienced ladies apply gel polish not only to the nail itself, but also to the cuticle. In this case, you can remove the composition from the skin in the following ways:

  • moisten a cotton swab or the tip of an orange stick in varnish solvent;
  • Some masters recommend washing your hands with soap several times after the procedure, and then applying more caring cream to the fabric. Due to this, after a couple of hours it will be much easier to remove excess varnish;
  • If the varnish gets on the cuticle in hard-to-reach places, you can remove it using a toothpick and a cotton wool wrapped around it, which will be soaked in a solvent.

Some masters prefer to use old brushes to combat unruly varnish, thanks to which they can remove large stains on the cuticle.

If the cuticle grows quickly

This product will not be sold in any pharmacy. No store will offer it. Do you know why? It’s just that the cosmetic company will have thousands of times fewer buyers in this direction. We suggest you prepare your own product that will make your nails chic and your cuticles soft and pliable. To prepare the cream, you need very little - real high-quality beeswax, vitamins, vaseline and essential oils. Do it even before removing cuticles at home.

Take a jar, melt the wax in the microwave, add to it the oils you have (almond, Baikal Herbal, ylang-ylang and, of course, Vaseline). Proportions are at your discretion. For reference: 70 grams of melted wax will require 10 grams of Vaseline oil and three to four drops of aromatic oil. If you notice that the mixture is uneven, reheat and stir again, and if it is liquid, add wax. Add vitamins (also in oil, A and E) to the still warm mixture. Rub the resulting cream after trimming the cuticles and at least every other day before going to bed. The result will please you very much.

Destruction forever

Few people believe this, but the unsightly tissue around the nail can be removed forever. What manipulations will have to be performed in this case?

  1. On the first day you will have to perform a trim manicure procedure.
  2. The next day you need to push back the cuticle using an orange stick and continue these manipulations every day.
  3. After 21 days, you need to go to a specialist who will perform a combined removal of small areas of tissue that have managed to germinate.
  4. For another week, you need to constantly move the cuticle, while carefully lubricating the problem area with oil.

Thanks to daily pushing and removal, the cuticle will become thinner, and after a month it will stop growing altogether. The main thing here is to be patient and carry out similar manipulations every day, not forgetting about the caring oil.

Such manipulations really help to completely and permanently get rid of the cuticle, but they require iron patience. If a girl does not remove the tissue for at least a couple of days, the cuticle will begin to grow again.

We work with tweezers

How to remove cuticles at home? It is very convenient to carry out this procedure with nippers (tweezers). Make sure you have nail polish remover, cuticle softener and oil, pusher, orange stick and cotton pads. Before starting the manicure procedure, be sure to wash your hands and wipe them dry. If necessary, file the nail plate, giving it shape. Now, using an orange stick, we carefully push back our cuticle and lift it.

This is preparation for working with keratolytic. This way it will penetrate the skin better and soften it faster. Be sure to clean the side rollers with a nail file before applying the softener. If they are difficult to process and the skin is rough, you can do this after treatment with a keratolytic, but in this case, the effect will be somewhat different. So, our finger is prepared. What's next?

1.

We take the keratolytic and apply a drop to the base of the nail. Now, using a pusher or an orange stick, distribute it over the sinuses. It takes 15 to 30 seconds for the softener to take effect.

2.

During this time, using a pusher with gentle movements (in the direction from the edges to the center of the nail plate), you need to clean your nail from pterygium, i.e. remove all thin skin. This is a very important point, because if this is not done, the pterygium will greatly interfere with the removal of the cuticle, and the varnish will not lie as smoothly as we would like.

3.

Next, use a pusher (or spatula) to push and lift the cuticle again, i.e. we make the final move to facilitate its removal.

4.

Now that the softener has done its work, we remove the excess of this product with a cotton pad.

5.

We start trimming the cuticle with the burrs that form on the side ridges. Make sure that the cut skin is smooth. Typically, manicurists hold their finger as if squeezing it to tighten the cuticle even more. We will not be able to repeat this exactly. But you can push back the cuticle yourself using your thumb. Actually, this is the difficulty of home manicure.

6.

Look carefully at your finger. You must determine the boundary where your skin is dead, and where is the nail fold, which must be left and under no circumstances cut it, otherwise you will no longer be able to have a beautiful manicure.

7.

The movements of the tweezers are an important point. Under no circumstances should you make tearing movements. Your task is to ensure that the tweezers follow the direction. Thus, you injure the skin less, and the cut is more even. We work in two directions, from the beginning of the cuticle to its middle.

8.

If we have something left, but the skin is already dry, we additionally go through it again with a softener. The time for influence in this case is already minimal. We remove the excess again and continue the procedure. If somewhere the skin has not come off very well, go over the nail with a pusher again.

9.

The cuticle has been removed. Now use nail polish remover to remove any remaining softener. Lubricate the cuticle with oil, rubbing it in a circular motion, thus nourishing our nail plate and skin.

Money issue

Removing problematic tissue can be done in different ways, and the issue here is cost. How much do various devices for combating cuticles cost:

  1. The manufacturer Bohema boasts affordable and high-quality products against keratinized tissue. Thus, a special remover in a pencil costs only 260 rubles.
  2. OPI boasts a wide variety of cuticle care products. The average cost of oil is 750 rubles.
  3. The Kinetics brand offers cuticle softeners and oils in the average price range of 550-600 rubles.
  4. The manufacturer Trind has special kits for removing problematic tissue.
  5. Products from the manufacturer INM have excellent reviews from customers, especially softening cuticle oil with green tea, which costs 320 rubles.

You need to focus not only on the cost of the product, but also on reviews about it, as well as on the composition. For example, the OPI and Kinetics brands boast quality products without the addition of harmful chemicals.
