Morning with parents

In fact, this morning of the bride and groom before the wedding is spent separately, but still the newlyweds do not meet the day alone. Joint gatherings with parents and other relatives will be very touching and warm. For example, a mother can help her daughter get ready, button up her dress, or adjust her veil. Imagine how sincere the pictures will be when the father sees his happy and beautiful daughter in her wedding dress!

Dad sees his daughter as a bride

Pictures of a father and his son-groom will be no less cute. An adult conversation over a cup of coffee, parting words and advice for a happy family life - all these moments are very important for a young man. And the mother can be seen in the photo tying her son’s tie, adjusting the collar of his shirt, etc.

Morning with friends

If the morning of the bride and groom before the wedding is spent in the company of friends, a fun and exciting get-together is guaranteed! Bridesmaids can get together with the bride, so for this purpose you can order the services of several makeup artists and stylists at once. Bridesmaids can also help the bride put on her outfit and accessories. Well, the groom and his friends won’t waste any time either: they will spend the morning having interesting conversations, they can visit a cafe together or even play billiards.

Getting ready for the groom with friends

The portal www.svadbagolik.ru told you about how you can spend the morning before the wedding: alone with each other or in the company of family and friends. We hope that after reading this article, you have chosen the ideal option for yourself!

Morning of the groom. Fees

NIKON D3 / 16.0 mm f/2.8 SETTINGS: ISO 3200, F3.5, 1/160 s, 16.0 mm equiv.

The bride at the wedding is the “queen of the ball” and all attention is focused on her, especially during the preparations. But let's not forget about the groom: behind the seeming indifference to putting on a bow tie and tying his shoelaces lies the desire not only to remember this day forever, but also to feel like a superhero from the wedding blockbuster of the same name.

Equipment

My main camera is Nikon D4s. To photograph the training camp, I used a good reportage lens - Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G ED AF-S NIKKOR, fast and versatile. In second place is the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II. Thanks to the long focal length, the photographer can be at a sufficient distance from the subject, creating a free and relaxed environment. In addition, I use a Nikon 16mm f/2.8d af fisheye-nikkor wide-angle lens, with a viewing angle of almost 180 degrees. For shooting in low light conditions, as well as for close-up portraits with ringing sharpness, I use the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G.

Getting ready for the groom VS getting ready for the bride: features

NIKON D4S / 14.0-24.0 mm f/2.8 SETTINGS: ISO 200, F2.8, 1/160 s, 14.0 mm equiv.

For a photographer, getting ready for the groom differs from getting ready for the bride primarily in the approach and attitude of the main characters to the photography itself. Men, as a rule, are not very fond of posing, which makes your task more difficult. You shouldn't just shoot; Try to make the process of filming fun and be prepared to turn it into a game if necessary.

NIKON D4 / 24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8 SETTINGS: ISO 3200, F2.8, 1/160 s, 32.0 mm equiv.

Use telephoto lenses with focal lengths greater than 70mm for occasional distance viewing. So, if close visual contact is important when photographing the bride, then it is better to watch the groom from afar, without violating his personal space. However, to achieve successful results, there must be complete trust and mutual understanding between you on the set.

Start shooting with details

Don’t underestimate the importance of wedding details - be sure to spend 10-15 minutes on them before starting the photo shoot. Ask the groom what is most important to him: it could be a watch given by his father or a bowtie chosen by the bride.

NIKON D4S / 24.0 mm f/1.4 SETTINGS: ISO 4000, F3.5, 1/80 s, 24.0 mm equiv.

NIKON D3 / 24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8 SETTINGS: ISO 1600, F5.6, 1/80 s, 52.0 mm equiv.

The background in the photo above was a regular bathtub. To highlight the background, I pointed the SB-910 AF Speedlight at the ceiling (on auto) to create a soft, diffused light. Here are some tips to make your photos interesting and memorable:

1. Refrain from banal shots

NIKON D4 / 24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8 SETTINGS: ISO 1250, F2.8, 1/200 s, 24.0 mm equiv.

Very often, the first thing that comes to a wedding photographer’s mind when getting ready for the groom is to photograph how he dresses. Break stereotypes - even if you photograph the moment of dressing, try not to direct the process. Your task is to catch an interesting moment before getting dressed or, conversely, after. Reportage and naturalness are the keys to visual success.

NIKON D4S / 24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8 SETTINGS: ISO 2200, F2.8, 1/160 s, 24.0 mm equiv.

Use high and low shooting points and sharp angles. This will help you take a fresh look at the seemingly banal plot.

NIKON D4S / 24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8 SETTINGS: ISO 640, F2.8, 1/500 s, 40.0 mm equiv.

2. Turn photography into a game

Nothing fuels interest in photography more than genuine interest and curiosity. Ask the groom to open the champagne, help the bride, or even brush his teeth: any action will open up the opportunity for an interesting reportage photo.

NIKON D4S / 16.0 mm f/2.8 SETTINGS: ISO 6400, F2.8, 1/250 s, 16.0 mm equiv.

For this shot, I used manual focus mode M on the lens (pre-focusing on a test subject at a distance of 1 meter and disabling autofocus) - this ensures that the focus remains unchanged when the subject is in an unpredictable position. Thanks to the use of an ultra-wide-angle Nikon 16mm f/2.8 lens, not only the room and the groom were captured in the frame, but also the hands of the bride.

NIKON D4 / 24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8 SETTINGS: ISO 1000, F2.8, 1/320 s, 34.0 mm equiv.

3. Add speakers

Men are created to act - so should you. Nothing brings your photo to life like creating movement in the frame.

NIKON D4S SETTINGS: ISO 2000, F4.5, 1/1600 sec, 24.0 mm equiv.

This shot was taken against the background of a regular tulle curtain by the window during daylight hours. Due to the difference in lighting inside and outside the room, the background is “whitened,” and the groom himself “went into the shadows.” To ensure that the tossed object remains sharp in the photo, make sure that the camera's shutter speed is set to no longer than 1/500 sec (when shooting in manual mode M). It is better to shoot movement in a frame in burst mode, so that later you can choose the most successful shot.

4. Don't forget the details

NIKON D4S / 24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8 SETTINGS: ISO 2000, F2.8, 1/200 s, 24.0 mm equiv.

Sometimes, when filming getting ready, you shouldn’t place a direct emphasis on the groom. Try to use interior items as a means of setting semantic and visual accents. These could be details of both the gathering location itself and the environment around you.

NIKON D4S / 16.0 mm f/2.8 SETTINGS: ISO 3200, F2.8, 1/500 s, 16.0 mm equiv.

This shot was taken from the low point "blindly" in AF-S autofocus mode. Very often during a reportage there is no time to move and focus, so the photographer must be prepared to act quickly and efficiently, unconditionally trusting his camera and lens (in my case, Nikon D4s and Nikon 16mm f/2.8).

5. Friends find themselves in trouble at training camps

NIKON D4 / 24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8 SETTINGS: ISO 1000, F2.8, 1/640 s, 24.0 mm equiv.

The groomsmen make the get-together special. There is no more natural and friendly atmosphere than when faithful comrades gather together. In this situation, you can simply watch what is happening from the side, only occasionally guiding the guys. But remember the main thing - the groom is always in the center of events!

Time for portraits

Once the preparations are complete, don't forget to take a couple of portraits of the groom (time permitting).

NIKON D4S / 70.0-200.0 mm f/2.8 SETTINGS: ISO 400, F2.8, 1/160 s, 116.0 mm equiv.

NIKON D4S / 24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8 SETTINGS: ISO 1250, F2.8, 1/100 s, 70.0 mm equiv.

The black and white photograph above was taken in the classic tradition using only natural light from a window. I used blackout curtains in the room and created complete darkness, leaving only a small gap of 20-30 cm. Using a soft but directional side light, I positioned the groom at a 90 degree angle to create a studio reflector effect.

For the second photo (on the chair), sunlight falling from above in the studio was used. During post-processing, I enhanced the lighting effect, making the image in the shadows (Shadows/Blacks) darker. In general, you should not be afraid of harsh sunlight. On the contrary, the rays of the sun falling through the window can be used to add an artistic touch to your photos.

NIKON D4S / 50.0 mm f/1.4 SETTINGS: ISO 400, F1.4, 1/6400 s, 50.0 mm equiv.

When filming the groom’s preparations, remember that your main task is to tell the story of this day, convey emotions and mood. Do not interfere in the process of getting ready unnecessarily, but when you intervene, make sure that the character of the groom in the photographs remains alive and sincere.

NIKON D4 / 14.0-24.0 mm f/2.8 SETTINGS: ISO 800, F2.8, 1/125 s, 14.0 mm equiv.
