Whatever the model of your wedding corset, almost any lacing technique will suit it. Marina Podgornaya
If previously such outfits were bulky and terribly uncomfortable, now they are made of soft materials and do not take up much space in the closet. A dress can have two types of corset: the upper one, which is put on over the head, and the lower one, which is under several layers of fabric. Most often, a classic wedding ball gown is sewn with a corset; corsets are less common in other models.

Important Tips
The first thing that should be taken into account at the time of purchase is the size of the dress. If it is too small, the bride will feel cramped and uncomfortable.
That is why you should choose dresses with a corset, the edges of which should be 5 centimeters closer to each other when trying on.
In order to put on such an outfit, you will definitely need the help of at least one person. Therefore, think in advance about who will help you get dressed on the morning of your wedding day and practice together in advance so as not to waste unnecessary time at the crucial moment.
The corset must fit snugly to the bride's body; do not allow too much freedom - the dress will dangle unattractively.
Lacing always starts from top to bottom. If the ribbons are too long, they can be cut or hidden in the folds of the corset.
You only need to tighten the corset tightly at the waist. In other places, this should be done moderately so that it does not make breathing difficult.
In order for the breasts to look good in a corset dress, during lacing, the bride should lift and hold them with her hands through the neckline.
If the style involves an open back under the lacing, do not forget to monitor the tension of the ribbons. They should not dig into the girl’s skin too much, as this not only looks unsightly, but can also cause pain.
Pregnant brides are strongly advised to avoid this style as it will have an adverse effect on the baby. There are other models that can highlight the beauty of a girl without such sacrifices.
Types of belts
- Transparent corset. This type of corset will suit the most daring brides with an excellent figure. It is considered very relaxed, because under it expressive underwear is worn, which shines through the translucent fabric. We recommend combining such a corset with a long floor-length skirt that completely covers the bride’s legs.
- Low-cut corset. This option emphasizes the advantages of the figure and completes the image. If such an accessory is embroidered with stones, pearls or rhinestones, it will highlight the waist well. A lace corset, or a corset with a bright element, can visually enlarge the bust. Gloves and a lace veil go well with such corsets.
Some brides think that a wedding dress with a corset must be voluminous, because it looks more luxurious this way. However, sophisticated godet styles, fishtail, A-line and short dresses with trains can also work well with a small corset to match.
Attention! When choosing a dress with a corset, it is important to choose the right size, otherwise you won’t be able to lace it well -
lacing can tighten the chest, or, conversely, there will be a lot of free space left.
Based on lacing, wedding dress corsets are divided into three main types:
- With loops through which lacing is threaded . Typically, these models have a zipper with a clasp or buttons.
- With holes into which lacing is also threaded , however, there is no zipper, but there is a layer of fabric that allows you to increase the product by a couple of sizes.
- With large loops - a large satin ribbon is threaded through them , which holds the entire outfit well. However, this option may not be suitable for those with curvy figures.
How to properly lace a corset on a wedding dress?
“Corset” toilets are an exclusive accessory for celebrations. Since we don't wear them at least once a week, we need to prepare in advance to spend the whole day in them. And it will be long and eventful, with joyful emotions, trips around the city, dancing and a festive feast.
To begin with, you should make sure that the top of the toilet matches your size. Even if you need to hide the excessive roundness of the hips and tummy, you should not order a “slimming” that is several sizes smaller. A bad mood, and perhaps fainting, will not keep you waiting.

There is no need to skimp on the material from which the base is sewn. Even if it is not visible and is covered from above with the most delicate draperies, the sensations of the body should also be comfortable. In addition, high-quality fabric will prevent guipure or silk from getting into unnecessary folds and will maintain an impeccable appearance until the end of the celebration.
A special detail of the corset is lacing. Depending on the stylist’s plan, it can be located at the back, side or front of the dress, and you need to be able to tie the corset correctly.
There are 3 types of lacing:
- through small loops into which the cord is threaded (often such models also have a hidden zipper, which eliminates the need to worry about the condition of the dress at the back);
- through specially designed holes (under this fastener there is a fabric insert, thanks to which you can change the parameters of the outfit by one or two sizes in one direction or another);
- through large loops into which a wide ribbon is threaded (under it there may be no liner, which adds to the appearance of sexuality).
In order to properly tighten the corset, you need to have an assistant and follow a certain procedure:
- put on a dress;
- pull the lacing through the loops;
- gradually dragging the crossings down to reach the end point.
Methods
Let's take a closer look at several methods showing how to properly lace a corset on a wedding dress.
First
- The bride holds her hands on her waist, fixing the corset.
- We thread the lace through the top right and left loops.
- Align both ends of the lace.
- We begin lacing as usual for lacing sneakers: we thread the left side of the lace into the right loop, and the right side of the lace into the left. We continue until the end.
- We tie a neat bow at the bottom.

How to properly lace a corset with a satin ribbon - see the instructions below:
- The girl puts on a dress. If the bride already has her hair and makeup ready, we recommend wearing the outfit underneath.
- We thread the ribbon into the two upper loops, aligning both ends so that they are the same length.
- We pass the left end of the ribbon into the second loop from the top on the right side. We carefully ensure that the ribbons do not twist, otherwise it will not look very aesthetically pleasing.
- We pass the ribbon through one loop from the left side to the right.
- We continue to thread one side of the ribbon through one loop until the ribbon runs out.
- Now we pass the right end of the ribbon into the left loop from above and pass it through the ribbon along the right side.
- When there is not enough lacing, we adjust the back and begin to tighten the ribbons on both sides so that the ends of the ribbon become longer.
- We continue lacing.
- After finishing the work, tie a bow and remove the remaining ribbon inside the dress.
When the lacing of the wedding dress with a satin ribbon is ready, you need to adjust the back of the dress so that it is even under the lacing and does not cause inconvenience to the bride.

Photo and process diagram:
We advise girls in the last months of pregnancy to completely avoid wedding dress models with a corset - primarily because this can harm your health and the health of your baby. Instead of a model with a corset, you can choose a Greek-style outfit that emphasizes the arms and chest, dresses with a high waist or without an emphasis on it.

How to tie a corset on a removed wedding dress - tips
While the dress is not on the bride, you can start lacing it on the hanger. Sometimes it is advised to lay it out on the bed, but this way it can be easily crushed, and the process is not particularly visible.
A lace or ribbon is threaded through the upper or lower outer loops (depending on what kind of lacing is planned - with a bow, which is made with a ribbon and is located at the waist, or coquettishly - just below it) or an elastic cord, the edges of which are tied in a minimal knot and hidden over the edge.
The loops can be under the knots (and this is the most common way) or on top, hiding the crosshairs. But the latter method requires skill and dexterity, which for some reason is not found in anyone present.
Such a process rarely looks intelligible in a photo, so you can see the picture below.
Lacing steps
For any type of corset, the lacing technique will be similar. The process includes the following steps.
Bride putting on a dress
If, at the time of fitting in the salon, the girl first puts on shoes and a petticoat, then on the day of the celebration, when the hairstyle is already ready, they begin by putting on the dress through the legs, and then the petticoat is put on. Next, if there is a zipper on the corset, you need to fasten it. However, if the halves of the zipper come together end to end, you should first tighten the lacing and only then fasten the zipper.
Threading a lace or ribbon into a corset
First you need to thread the top loops and tighten the cord so that the ends are equal in length. So we move down and thread all the holes or loops.
Tightening the corset
- Holding the ends of the cord (this will prevent them from slipping out of the loops) with one hand, gradually pull the lacing down with the other hand at the crossing points. It is more convenient to do this manipulation together - let one girlfriend hold the ends of the cord, while the other drags it down in turn with both hands. If you have to tighten the corset alone, hold the ends of the lace comfortably with your left hand, and with two fingers (index and thumb) of your right hand you should pull the lace at the intersection points, and then pull them down with the middle finger of your right hand.
- Grasping the next intersection with two fingers, you need to pull it up, while simultaneously releasing the middle finger at the previous intersection of the cords. If tape is used to tighten the corset, it will not slip out, so there is no need to hold it by the ends.
- Gradually pull the ribbon down through the loops while straightening it.
- The bride should support her breasts with both hands while tightening the corset so that they don’t end up looking too flat. At the same time, you need to hide the excess fabric. In corsets without a zipper, you need to carefully straighten the fabric liner. When the corset has a zipper, tuck the excess fabric under the bones to the sides so that the zipper is right in the middle of the back.
Problems that may arise
An incorrectly laced wedding dress will always slide down during the celebration. But it’s not just poor corset lacing that can become a problem. The bride may face difficulties if she bought an outfit that is not her size. To avoid purchasing an outfit that is too wide, when purchasing the corset, you need to tighten it as much as possible and try to insert your finger under the lacing. If your finger fits through, it means the dress is too big for you.
If you find that the dress is too wide after purchase, be sure to sew the outfit. If you can’t change the corset, add straps to the dress.
