Traditions of the Tatar people

Traditional wedding dresses of the bride and groom

Wedding traditions of any nation develop over centuries, change, and some are lost. The reverent attitude towards choosing a wedding dress remains unchanged. First of all, this concerns the bride’s clothing. Modern Tatar wedding dresses are increasingly stylized in the European style, but with the obligatory bright national flavor. If previously the bride’s family gave her fabric to sew an outfit, the modern girl prefers to choose the style, material and decorations for the wedding on her own.

The Tatar bride prefers to buy a ready-made dress in a salon. In the wide assortment offered, you will definitely find an outfit for a celebration, embroidered with the national Tatar pattern and coins (solps). Bridal clothing involves a closed type of long dress. The color can be snow-white or, according to Tatar traditions, deep blue, green or burgundy.

Often the color component of a wedding dress is a camisole - a vest in blue, green or burgundy. On the bride's feet are shoes or elegant light boots - sitek. The head is covered with a lace veil or a national wedding dress - kalfak. The abundance of jewelry - beautiful earrings and numerous bracelets, jewelry that harmoniously fits into a festive outfit - speaks of the status of the bride.

Tatar wedding clothes are outwardly more conservative than those of the bride. Often this is a strict European-style suit, mostly in dark colors. If the wedding takes place according to national traditions, clothing is appropriate. A velvet camisole, mainly in dark blue tones, and a headdress, embroidered with national patterns using gold threads.

Bride ransom - how does it differ from Russian tradition?

The issue of bride price is discussed after the matchmaking has taken place, and the parents of the future newlyweds have come to a common opinion. The bride price represents a large amount of money and jewelry. Sometimes the groom gives livestock to the bride's family as a bride price (in rural areas). The newlywed, in turn, will bring bedding, carpets, and kitchen utensils with her to the new home.

According to Russian traditions, the bride price rite does not contain the concept of bride price. On the wedding day, when the groom comes to pick up the bride, her bridesmaids jokingly demand a ransom for the beautiful newlywed. A pre-conceived script and funny pranks lift everyone's spirits. And for those present, the groom shows how well he knows his future wife. The only similarity is that the Russian bride also prepares a dowry for family life in advance.

Features of the Tatar wedding feast

Traditionally, Tatars have two weddings. The first takes place in the bride's house. All friends, relatives, neighbors of the girl’s parents and close relatives on the groom’s side are called to it. After this part of the wedding, the bride stays at her parents' house. The next stage is a “wedding for women.” Sweets, pies, tea are placed on the table. After the Nikah ceremony, the wedding itself takes place, then the bride goes to live in the groom’s house. And the final stage is “tea from the bride” in the husband’s house, where his close relatives gather.

What dishes are usually served

The Tatar people carefully honor the secrets of national dishes. The basis of feasts still consists of meat dishes, shurpa soup, pastries, and pilaf. The Tatar wedding table must include chak-chak, butter with honey, and bird tongues (koshtele). For a wedding, women always bake pancakes, pancakes, and prepare a sweet drink from fruits. Meat dishes include dried sausage and traditional goose.

The main place on the festive table is occupied by a sweet layer cake - gubadia. The number of layers should be odd: from three to nine. Dried berries, raisins or apples are used for the filling. Craftswomen treat baking very responsibly, carefully checking whether the cake is baked inside. There is a ritual of buying back Gubadiya, when the groom's father covered the pie with a scarf and put money on top of it. Chak-chak is another sweet dish baked from unleavened dough, which is bought by the groom’s relatives or exchanged for gifts.

An obligatory ritual dish at the end of the feast is goose, considered a symbol of family happiness. A special person was appointed to cut up the poultry, and at the end of the holiday he was given a gift. It must only be a man. Cutting must be done very carefully without damaging the seeds. The sequence of actions could differ depending on the geographical location of the wedding.

Is alcohol allowed

At a Tatar wedding, alcohol is prohibited by national traditions. A variety of non-alcoholic drinks are prepared for the feast: kvass, fruit drinks, compotes. The culmination of a Tatar wedding is considered to be the serving of tea with a sweet chak-chak pie - a treat from the bride. During and after nikah, you cannot drink alcohol, otherwise the ritual loses its power.

Alina and Azat's preparation diary: nikah and festive dinner

Hooray, new issue of the “Preparation Diary”! No wonder the editors of Marry Me, Rustem! and, we hope, our readers. Today's post is dedicated to the nikah ritual. Alina and Azat approached this day in a very unconventional way. They not only respected traditions, but also introduced elements of a modern holiday into it. Alina's story with interest .

“We held our Nikah on August 31, 2014 . I really liked the rustic theme, and we decided to bring it to life. True, it turned out more like a fabulous rustic chic. The nikah budget was approximately 250 thousand rubles .

We started preparing for nikah a month in advance. At first we chose the mosque on Tukaev Street because of its proximity to the house, but our soul demanded larger-scale beauty and we moved the ceremony to Lyalya-Tulpan .

We wanted a very small celebration for 10 people, but in the end we decided to invite both friends and close relatives. It turned out to be 26 people . Although I know that for a traditional nikah this is not even enough
