Photoshop from scratch or how to make invitations without a designer

Brides, wives and other forum visitors! Many times I have come across requests for help with a monogram, invitation, place cards and other printing things that, in principle, are easy to do yourself, and for this you only need to have time and basic skills in Photoshop. If you turn to professionals - this is an additional cost, if you just turn to forum members - then it will take a long time, and it is not at all a fact that the result will be what you expected. That's why I decided to write a small master class for those who are not afraid to take on this pleasant task on their own?

(The second piece of MK is how to prepare the found frame for further use)

I don’t think there’s any need to explain where to get Photoshop from) As for its version, I have CS5. If you are just taking your first steps and want to learn from any of the master classes (not necessarily this one), then it is better to install the version that is described in the selected master class - it will be much clearer and easier.

So, let's begin. 1. Installed Photoshop and launched it:

We can look at all the icons, buttons, and climb everywhere. 2. The next thing we definitely need to do is create a new file where we will work

At this stage, we can set the image dimensions and resolution (for printing in a printing house it is better to do 300, as in the picture) 3. The main point that you need to understand and remember is Layer .

In Photoshop, everything is done in layers, like a sandwich. Everything is logical here - layer is superimposed on layer, what is below is overlapped by what is above. If you want to make any changes, ALWAYS do it on a new layer! In this case, it can always be deleted without affecting the rest of the work. 4. So, we have created a new layer - it is transparent. I dragged the background image onto it from the folder with pictures (directly with the mouse). In order to cover our entire sheet with this background, we create a duplicate layer with the picture

and drag the layer that appears to the desired location 5. We made several duplicate layers with the background, and lined them up one below the other. To simplify the work and not get confused in a bunch of layers, we merge them (at the same time we merge the visible layers - the eye icon should be to the left of the required layers, but what we do not touch is the lowest white layer - we turn off the eye there)

and now we can safely duplicate this one layer again, drag it to the right side, merge it again - and get a layer with the background. 6. There is a general background, now you need to add various decorative and informative elements. To do this symmetrically, let's turn on the grid

    7. Draw a circle in the center of the picture

To do this, select the shape tool in the left panel, select a circle there, and stretch it to the desired size. 8. Just a blue circle is boring. Right-click on its layer and find Blending Options

    9. Let's make a clear outline - make a stroke

There's a lot more you can do in the Blend Options - experiment! 10. Now let's add some text. Select the icon with the letter T (panel on the left), select the desired area, enter the text, select the font, color, size

My font is not standard. I can tell you where to get them and how to install them, if interested. 11. If it happens that we are too lazy to edit the text, and it’s easier to do everything again (or we just don’t need it), right-click and select Delete layer

That's why we do everything on different layers! 12. Let's return to our circle. Let's make it semi-transparent. Blend options - move the opacity slider to the desired value

    13. If we decide to make a monogram, nothing could be simpler. We print two large capital letters and select the desired font.

Again, the font is not standard. You can make each letter separately and rotate them with each other - location, tilt, etc. 14. We need to decorate our monogram. Create a new layer, select a beautiful brush, click the brush on the layer

There's a lot you can do with this layer. You can move it to the background, change the size, color, etc. 15. I dragged the brush layer under the circle, filled it with a dark color, added a shadow, changed the shape and size. After that, I duplicated the layer with the circle, reduced its size by 10% and slightly reduced the thickness of the stroke.

You can do something different. 16. We have the picture, now we need to make the back side of the card - with the text itself. Remove the “eye” (visibility) from all layers except our background and create a Rectangle shape with rounded edges (for this I turned on the grid to make everything even, which I advise you to do)

    17. Writing the invitation text

At this point we can finish the job and save our invitation in two files - one will be the side with the text, the other will be the side with the picture. We just set visibility on the layers we need, select the file - save as. Save as jpg or png.

Or can we continue the exciting process of creating an invitation and try other features of the wonderful Photoshop program?

I hope my master class will be useful for you) If you have any questions, write, I will answer)
