On July 20, the world will celebrate (we hope in a big way) International Cake Day.

Cake is a favorite delicacy of children and adults, the main decoration of the table for any occasion. Therefore, its appearance is no less important than its taste. We have prepared an overview of the main trends in the decoration of these outstanding products.

The word “torte” means “round bread” in Italian.:) Therefore, we believe that the phrase “cake is the boss of everything” also has a right to exist. Cake is truly a favorite delicacy of children and adults, the main decoration of the table for any holiday. Therefore, the appearance of the cake is no less important than its taste. Confectioners are constantly coming up with more and more new ways to decorate their culinary masterpieces. In case you decide to bake a cake for Cake Day (sorry for the tautology), we have prepared an overview of trends in decorating these outstanding products: on such a wonderful holiday you need to come up with something special!

1. Naked cake

Everything around strives for naturalness and naturalness. Even food  Buyers are increasingly choosing natural shapes and colors: something that reminds them of home cooking. After all, there is less and less time left for cooking, but you still want to eat something “as if from childhood.” Let's say "No!" bright, unnatural colors of cakes! The good old classic is held in high esteem: chocolate cakes coated with delicate white cream. Followers of this trend are reluctant, but it is possible to use cocoa and berry juice to give the cream a subtle tint. The edges of such products are not cut and, most often, not coated with cream. But you can also use fresh flowers and leaves: in principle, everything is natural and rustic.

If you want to create the perfect celebration, you should not forget to follow certain tips.

  1. Guests are part of your celebration, which is a fairly large mass. Thanks to them, you can get a complete picture, or vice versa, dissonance. To create a harmonious look, ask everyone invited to wear dresses of the same color or length. Let guests know that shade variations may occur. For example, when choosing cream, you can see both a delicate pastel shade and a rich brown tone. Both options have a place to be.
  2. Simplicity should be in everything. It should be reflected in the main menu. For main courses, choose simple hot dishes, salads and appetizers. Proven options will be your best choice. This is fish and meat. If we are talking about salads, then you should not load them with complex filling. Give preference to a light dressing of spices and olive oil.
  3. It is impossible to imagine a wedding without a photo shoot. Talk to the photographer in advance about what style you have chosen for your celebration. Together, think about locations where you can go to get interesting photos. Green meadows and grasses are excellent options.

5. Quilling

Initially, this is a cute girlish hobby - “paper rolling”, the art of making compositions from strips of paper twisted into spirals and other shapes. Looks very nice! Resourceful confectioners decided the same thing and adapted the technique for making patterns from mastic. The mastic is rolled out in a thin layer, cut into narrow strips and patterns and ornaments are laid out on the surface of the cake. In general, painting with “edible” materials on the plain smooth surface of a cake is very popular now. And it’s not difficult at all!

Of course, working with mastic requires certain skills. Continuing the theme of the play of colors, one cannot help but note a trend that has resulted in a separate confectionery trend - cakes with a color transition from light to dark within 1-2 shades.

This effect is achieved very simply - by adding dye to increasing portions of cream or dough. The gradient or ombre effect can affect the inside of the cake (dye in the cake layers only), the outside (dye in the outside decoration only), or both.

Unlike a rainbow cake, such desserts look more delicate and calm, there is no explosion of colors, but there is a noble admiration of color, which is probably why they are so popular at weddings.
