Strengthening nails with acrylic at home

Strengthening nails with acrylic powder under gel polish is indicated for thin plates, their own or extended length, poor “wearability” of the usual coating, cracks and defects on them. The powder is used on an undried base. It is poured onto the nail with a spatula or the finger is dipped into a jar of the composition, polymerized in a lamp, and then the procedure is continued as usual.

There are transparent, colored, camouflage, glitter, and neon powders that are also suitable for design. Strengthening helps to extend the wearing of manicure for up to 1 month, if there is no allergy to acrylic. In the salon, the service increases its price to 1500-5000 rubles. Remove the powder by filing and soaking with a special liquid.

Strengthening nails with acrylic powder for gel polish: will it really help?

Strengthening nails with acrylic powder under gel polish provides:

  • greater rigidity and density of nails, without making them “potbellied”;
  • elimination of microcracks on plates;
  • leveling their surface;
  • long-term wearing of manicure;
  • “repair” of the plate if part of the free edge breaks off;
  • beautiful nails, even if they peel in their natural form;
  • the opportunity not to rest from the coating without harming their condition.

The effect is real due to the special properties of the material. It is a powder of polymer particles, which, in combination with a monomer, hardens under the influence of light radiation. What the acrylic comes into contact with also becomes more rigid. Essentially, this is another layer on the nails that becomes their support. There is no healing effect when used, but acrylic powder does not cause harm. Nails retain some elasticity, so wearing a manicure can be quite comfortable.

Is it better to use powder?

Acrylic powder has a lot of advantages:

  • beauty and naturalness of the appearance of nails when using it;
  • a variety of species that give different external effects;
  • ease of use, speed of the process;
  • the ability to wear a manicure for up to 1 month;
  • absence of bubbles on the surface, which happens when using gel polish;
  • the ability to create original designs that cannot be made with other materials;
  • ease of correction after the period of wearing the manicure has expired.

The product can be purchased inexpensively at any nail art supply store. You don’t need any special tools or equipment to use; what you already have for standard gel polish coating is enough.

What is acrylic powder used for?

Acrylic powder first found its use in dentistry. When hardened, this powdery polymer substance became very durable, and it was used in the manufacture of dental fillings and in dental prosthetics. Some time ago, manicurists drew attention to this powder, and now acrylic powder is considered an indispensable material among professionals of modern manicure art. Acrylic has strength and ductility; the hardened substance is elastic and does not require special care.

When caring for their nails, the fair sex faces various “surprises”. For example, many people know the problem of brittleness and softness of the nail plate. In some cases, this deficiency is inherited, but sometimes the problem arises under the influence of unfavorable external factors. Among other things, hangnails and overgrown cuticles spoil the appearance. And the nails themselves peel and break, which gives the hands a rather unsightly appearance. Acrylic powder allows you to easily and quite simply solve such problems.

The big advantage of acrylic is that it helps to care for your nails, especially if they constantly peel and break. In these cases, the use of acrylic powder becomes a real salvation, because the powder strengthens the nail plate well and provides additional protection. With its help, you can “repair” a broken nail, and, in general, without much effort, grow strong and healthy nails.

The use of acrylic powder helps to grow nails, since acrylic does not deform the nail plates. Thanks to its durable composition, the powder lasts a long time.

Nail art masters use acrylic powder to create various patterns, including voluminous ones, that look impressive on well-groomed nails.

When using gel polish, acrylic powder is often used as a base to ensure an even coating on the nail plate.

In conclusion, we add that after strengthening with acrylic powder, the life of the manicure is significantly extended. And the nails themselves become less susceptible to adverse external factors.

Strengthening with acrylic powder under gel polish step by step

Strengthening with acrylic powder under gel polish looks like this step by step:

  1. Perform a hygienic manicure.
  2. Nails are treated with a buff, wiped with a degreaser, and coated with primer.
  3. Apply the base product.
  4. Powder is poured onto the damp surface of the nail.
  5. Shake off excess.
  6. Dry in a lamp.
  7. Go over the nail with a brush.
  8. Cover it with another layer of base or gel polish.
  9. The composition is polymerized.
  10. Use the finishing coat and dry it.

Preparation

The first stage is disinfecting hands and nails and preparing them for the use of artificial materials. Spray an antiseptic on the skin and rub it over the surface. The nails are given the desired shape and the same length using a file. The keratinized part of the cuticle is cut off, the pterygium is cleaned, including from the area of the lateral ridges. The gloss is removed from surfaces with a buff. And then they and the skin nearby are wiped with a degreaser, carefully removing all dust and lint.

The cleanliness of the manicure is very important; it will ensure the absence of streaks, and later peeling, and an even, high-quality coating of materials.

Using a Primer

After degreasing the nails, a primer is applied to them, combined with acrylic material. It can be acidic or acid-free; there are liquids labeled Acrylic. For many, the coating also lasts on a weaker ultrabond with a low content of aggressive chemicals. The main thing is to apply the chosen product correctly:

  • in a small amount, but on the entire plate and end;
  • without affecting the skin;
  • then dry it in air for 1-2 minutes, if the instructions for the composition do not indicate to polymerize it in a lamp.

Applying the base

For acrylic powder, choose a plastic base, that is, rubber. It should be of medium consistency and smooth out well. The product is applied in a thin layer, not reaching 1-1.5 mm to the cuticle. There is no need to level the base at this stage, nor do you need to dry it. If the product gets on the skin, it should be removed immediately with a cloth moistened with a degreaser or an orange stick.

Using powder

The powder can be applied to the nail in two ways:

  • dipping your finger into a jar of it several times;
  • sprinkle the plate with powder from a spatula.

In both cases, the finger should remain in one position - down, so that the undried base does not flow onto the cuticle, and the powder lies more evenly. You need to wait some time for it to mix on the nail with the liquid. The remains are shaken off by tapping the applicator on your finger. Then you can put your hand in the drying lamp. The process time is standard, depending on the type of device.

You should not apply powder under the cuticle or even to its very edge. After all, the base of the nail remains static even without acrylic composition; only the central part and the free edge should be strengthened. There is also no need to be afraid that unevenness will form at the border if the base is used in moderation.

Applying a second layer of base or gel polish

The powder must be fixed with the next layer of polymerizing material. Before applying it, brush the dried nail with a brush to remove excess grains. Then you can use your choice:

  • another layer of base if the powder was decorative;
  • gel polish

The base is applied with leveling, but the layer needed is quite thin. It should be dried in a lamp. Gel polish is usually used to paint nails twice, polymerizing each time. The final coating in any case is top. It is dried in a lamp.

The nature of the break is a crack

1 repair method - using acrylic powder

Required materials : rubber base and acrylic powder.

Stage 1. We prepare the nail plate for gel polish, carefully following the technology:

  • We process the cuticle and free edge of the nail in the usual way.
  • We remove the gloss from the natural nail plate with a file or buff, paying special attention to the place of the crack: it should become smooth on all sides.

  • Degrease the nails. It is better to use an acid primer on the broken nail.

Stage 2. Cover the nail with a base (it’s better if it’s rubber). Lift the nail at the crack so that the base fills it a little, that is, gets inside the crack. Using a thin brush, apply the base on the back of the nail in the problem area. Without drying, pour acrylic powder here, just a little bit. Let's dry it.

Stage 3. Shake off excess powder. We file the nail, leveling it from above and from the side. Apply another layer of base and dry.

Next, standard nail polish is applied with gel polish. This is not the most durable method, but it works - I personally use it.

If gel polish coating is not intended, then you can use nail glue instead of a base, but this will save the situation for only a short time. Once upon a time I wrote about nail repair using it.

Repair method 2 - using silk

Required materials: silk or fiberglass (reinforcing tape).

Step 1. Prepare the nail plate according to all the rules (for details, see the previous section).

Step 2. Cut out a piece of silk slightly larger than the size of the crack. We apply the base and, without drying it, put fiberglass on it and saturate it with the base. Dry it in a lamp.

Step 3. Cover the nail with another layer of base. For greater reliability, you can use, for example, biogel.

Step 4. File if the silk or material protrudes slightly beyond the edges of the nail plate.

Then you can do the usual gel polish coating.

Alternative crack repair option

Some craftsmen believe that the only way to reliably “neutralize” a crack is to cut it out. Like this? - you ask. To do this, an incision is made with manicure scissors, perpendicular to the crack so that there are no traces left at all deep into the nail. It turns out that in the free edge on the side there is such a triangular wasteland, which then needs to be filled.

However, you first need to file it down to avoid any unevenness and apply primer.

You can fill it out in different ways:

  1. As with extensions, substituting a form and filling it with gel or a mixture of rubber base and acrylic. After drying, adjust the shape.
  2. If the triangle is not very large and the base is thick, then you can do it without substituting the shape, but most likely you will have to apply it in several layers and then cut it out, including from below, but here you cannot do without cutters.
  3. Using fiberglass: first strengthen it from above with a base, dry it, and then from below, also dry it and adjust the shape.

As I said, this is already difficult to do at home, unless, of course, you yourself are a master!

Lifehack

Well, here I can’t help but mention what can replace fiberglass, because it is also not always at hand. But, for example, I think almost everyone has a tea bag Then cut a patch of the required size from it - budget-friendly and very practical. Well, the second option is that you can also use a lint-free napkin or cotton wool .

Manicure tools with acrylic powder and gel polish

Manicure with acrylic powder and gel polish is performed using:

  • antiseptic liquid,
  • files;
  • buff;
  • hand brushes;
  • cuticle scissors or nippers;
  • an orange stick or an applicator with a silicone tip, a pusher;
  • remover;
  • degreaser (dehydrator);
  • lint-free wipes;
  • primer;
  • bases;
  • gel polish;
  • finishing agent;
  • lamps for coating polymerization.

If you have a manicure machine, some of the tools may not be needed.

Advantages of using acrylic powder for nails

Simple application technique. Due to its ease of use, even a non-professional can use acrylic powder, and the procedure itself can be performed at home.

Hypoallergenic. Only 5-7% of people had any allergic reactions while using the powder. Thus, this cosmetic product is suitable for almost everyone.

Persistence. For this property, powder is especially valued by professional manicurists. The effect after application lasts up to two weeks, the color does not chip, the nail does not break or deform.

Naturalness. Powder looks as natural as possible on your nails if you choose neutral shades for extensions.

Ease of use . With a minimal set of tools, the procedure for using acrylic powder is a simple and quick process. In addition, the acrylic composition dries quickly.

Harmlessness. The “light” structure of the polymer coating allows air to penetrate directly to the nail. In addition, during nail treatment, the composition does not touch the skin.

When should you use gel polish with powder?

Gel polish with powder is chosen by those who have one of the following nuances or problems:

  • nails are thin, brittle, peeling, very bending;
  • long natural length;
  • you need to perform extensions with artificial materials;
  • The gel polish coating quickly flies off and peels off due to the characteristics of the body;
  • the tip of the nail is broken or there are other defects that cannot be hidden by a regular color coating.

In addition, the material is used for:

  • aquarium and knitted designs;
  • designations of drawings or their details;
  • decorating individual stripes and figures in geometry;
  • creating a velvet or “sugar” surface.

How to use acrylic powder

In order to work with acrylic, you will need special materials: - acrylic powder of the required type; - liquid (liquid with which the powder is mixed). This is a monomer that does not change the color of the powder; it mixes with the base and it hardens, while forming a sticky layer. - long flat brush; - degreaser; - buff and files.

Experts advise choosing high-quality materials, since cheap preparations of dubious quality may not have sufficient rigidity and tenacity, and it will not be possible to perform a durable and creative manicure with them.

Many buyers are scared by the high cost of acrylic powder. However, when used correctly, a small jar of this powder lasts for a very long time.

Preparation

  • Remove any remaining varnish;
  • Wash your hands with soap;
  • Get a manicure;
  • Treat the nail plates with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide;
  • Apply a soft buff to remove excess shine;
  • Degrease the top layer of the nail using a special liquid.

It is better to do a manicure without cutting, so as not to injure the skin. In case of trimmed manicure, wait 24 hours before applying the material to the nails.

Strengthening nails with acrylic powder

Acrylic powder is used to make thin and brittle nails more durable, as well as to straighten the nail plates. To strengthen your nails with acrylic powder, you need to follow a sequence of actions; this is quite enough to avoid making annoying mistakes. This is a very fast and effective procedure:

  • after performing a manicure, go through a buff and degrease the nail plate;
  • Let's apply the primer; for working at home, it is better to choose an acid-free primer.
  • Apply the gel polish base evenly in a thin layer. Do not dry it in a lamp;
  • open a jar of acrylic powder. Take a manicure pusher and use the concave side of the spatula to carefully scoop out the material. Hold the nail over the jar and lightly sprinkle the powder over the entire surface so that the remaining grains of sand fall back into the container;
  • dry your nails in an ultraviolet or LED lamp;
  • Remove your hand and use a manicure brush to brush off any excess powder. A smooth and durable surface will remain.
  • You can immediately apply gel polish or regular polish - your nails are reliably protected from chipping.

After this procedure, the gel polish will stick much better, you will be able to avoid peeling and chipping, which is very important.

Cost of gel polish coating with acrylic powder

In the salon, gel polish with acrylic powder can cost 1500-5000 rubles. The difference depends on the level of the institution, as well as the method of using the material. In any case, strengthening is paid separately and can add 500-800 rubles to the cost of the manicure.

If the design is done with powder on the entire plate, each finger will cost 100-250 rubles. The same price applies to nail repairs. If the powder is used in combination with another type of design (geometry, ombre, hand-painted), each is paid separately depending on the complexity. It could be 100 or 700-1200 rubles. for each nail.

The product itself is purchased at a price of 90-350 rubles. for a 5-7 gram jar. The cost depends not only on the store, but also on the quality of the product. Colored and glitter powders usually cost more. To strengthen, you should choose the finest grind, which can also add value. But this quality makes working with powder easier, especially for a beginner.

How to remove the coating

You can remove old house coverings in several stages:

  1. First, use a 100-180 grit file on the surface of the nail to damage the finishing layer.
  2. A piece of cotton pad is moistened in a liquid that dissolves acrylic.
  3. It is placed on the nail and secured with foil or a silicone cap.

  4. You need to wait 10-15 minutes.
  5. The soaked coating is removed from the surface with an orange stick.

  6. The remains are cut down with a 240 grit grinder.
  7. Dust is brushed off to see if any material remains on the plate.
  8. Then you can shape your nails, treat cuticles, etc.
  9. Finally, apply oil to the skin.

You should work with files, especially at the 6th stage, carefully so as not to damage the nail. A remover that dissolves acrylic should be applied liberally to the cotton wool. But it is important to control that it does not flow and does not get on the skin or is there in a minimal amount. Still, this is a rather aggressive remedy for her.

Acrylic strengthening is used by many nail artists; the method has proven itself to improve the “wearability” of a manicure. It is also available at home. But when performing it, it is important to follow all the steps so that “pockets” favorable for the development of infection do not form under the coating.

How to use acrylic to strengthen nails

Remember: it is very important to strictly adhere to the technology of applying the material, otherwise it may chip and peel off during wear.

How to strengthen nails with acrylic? In fact, the procedure is very easy and will not cause you any difficulties, especially if you have already worked with gel polish or extension gel before.

  • Step 1. Dip the tip of the brush into the liquid, squeeze it slightly so that no drops fall from it, and dip it into acrylic so that you get a small ball.

Let's get acquainted - acrylic system for nail extensions

The acrylic system was originally used exclusively in beauty salons, but today, thanks to the widespread availability of the necessary materials, it is not difficult to grow your nails yourself at home.
In the process of creating an artificial coating, acrylic nail powder is used, which is much easier to work with than gel. There is also no need to purchase an ultraviolet lamp, which is so important for gel extensions. Therefore, acrylic powder, which you can buy in our store, will be an excellent material for building first-class nails. The hardening process of the working material occurs after the dry acrylic powder is mixed with the nail monomer. Acrylic powder - powder, consists of a mixture of catalyst and polymer. As soon as the acrylic liquid reacts with the catalyst, the latter releases a small amount of heat, which is enough to bring the powder to a plastic consistency. This state of the working material lends itself perfectly to distribution over the nail plate and modeling of an artificial nail. Interacting with air, the viscous polymer hardens, after which the nail is given the required shape by filing.
